Default Would you buy a new bike w/ options

When you buy a car they have the same car with several different packages.

Cloth vs. leather seats
Sound system upgrade
Different tire size
I think you get the picture

My question is would you buy a bike that you could

Upgrade the seat
Different grips
Shield
Etc...

I know after you buy the bike or when you are getting it you can go to the parts counter and add stuff.

What I'm talking about is that you would order the bike from the factory with this stuff already included. They could have a rule like they do with cars that you cannot get a custom ordered bike after June 1. Whatever your dealer has is what is available. You then have to add the stuff yourself.

Waste of time or not a bad idea?

Not me. I'm a stock bike kind-a guy. The only aftermarket thing I ever put on a bike was a sissybar on my 1972 rd250 and that was in 1972..

Victory does it too. just go to there site and play with the custom order bike program. you can add or change some of the parts along with paint colors and when your done it'll give you a pic of the bike with several different back drops to look at. kind of fun to play with and go from a jackpot to a vegas or kingpin.

What kind of pride would one have with that though? When one does it themselves, there is a certain pride that comes along with it.

JMHO..

I dont know, I bet the "extras" would be marked up and you'd just end up paying more in the end. If Im going to spend on extra mods for my bike, Im betting I will pick out a lot of stuff the manufacturer wont be able to put on.

+1

Every time I buy a vehicle, I buy options or options packages that are not easily done myself.
I bought a TRD/SR-5 Toyota tundra, then for $200 upgraded the seats to leather, changed the mirror covers, added the dimming rear-view mirror, and even added the DVD Nav system from a Camry.
I ended up with a truck that was a little bit nicer than the Limited, except it didn't have the steering wheel controls.

For my Duramax... same thing. Went with the loaded LT3, then added things one by one as I could afford them.

For a bike, there's not much you can't do at home. Paint and engine color options are about the only thing out of reach of a novice wrench.
You're STILL going to pay $500 or more for the Mustang/Corbin seat, and you aren't going to get any credit for your stock seat.
