At the end of last week my wife informed me she would be traveling across the Atlantic pond to Paris + London for work; to which I immediately expressed sadness (sigh) publicly and joy (huge friggin' smile) at the thought of an "end of Midwest season" road trip.
Checking my work calendar, which (thankfully) was relatively free, I informed my boss (my actual boss and the real boss, i.e., my wife) that I'd be heading west to the Black Hills from the Twin Cities for 4-5 days of touring. What I didn't realise at the time was Fionnula's odometer (i.e., my 2005 Meanie) was at ~9,200 mi. At the time I observed this, I thought to myself that turning 10K mi. on Finnie would be a true joy in the beautiful west of South Dakota. Today, Finnie turned 10K. I kind of feel like my baby girl has gone to kindergarten (wipe tear left, wipe tear right) but am very proud of her performance. The turning was truly the epitome of a fitting scene. I departed from Rapid City, SD early this morning and hit the Peter Norbeck Wildlife Loop around 9:00 AM CT. Right between 9,999 and 10,000, 3 huge herds of buffalo moved through and a fellow tourist/traveler was kind enough to capture a few shots on my digicam. Although the weather turned crap in the afternoon (fog/mist), I stick to the mantra that any crap ride day is 100x better than a no ride day. Have to say I love my dear Fionnula - cheers to all of you and (hopefully) to 1 more day of carving the twisties in the Needles and Spearfish tomorrow... Best, TMac
