Default Vulcan 2000 rear wheel bearings...

My 2004 V2K is in the shop for the second time this year for eating the rear wheel bearings. By eating I mean tearing the bearings apart and pitching the whole wheel and belt pully out toward the swing arm, locking up the whols mess. This happened again last monday fifty miles from nothing, but this time I was only going about 40mph. I got off to check if the tire was flat and saw the left bearing hanging out and the metal cover ripped and twisted, the wheel at an ugly angle. It's back in the shop again and my question is: Have any other Vulcan 2000 owners had rear wheel bearing problems. How would one go about getting Kawasaki Reps involved in examining my Vulcan for "flaws" etc?
Your thoughts would be helpful, thanks.

wonder if your alignment is off causing the bearings to wear? keep us posted on how it goes after your replacement

Ouch!!

Yes please keep us informed of any more news on this issue.

Have you looked on the Rogue owners page to see if anyone else has had this issue?

Default Rear wheel bearings repair...

The dealer will have my V2K for some time, but I'm worried they will just put a new Kawasaki part in it and give it back. I will give them the upgrade bearing part number to install, even at my cost. I wish I knew who to call at Kawasaki to get them involved some way. Is it a fantasy to think Kawasaki reps would like to know why one of their new products eats rear wheel bearings? Wouldn't they like to impliment an upgrade, repair or stronger part? I'm having thoughts that one should sell a bike that tries to kill you, twice. What is a 2004 V2K with 16,500 miles and lots of chrome and performance stuff worth?

I would be more curious to know who does your belt adjustments. Also, where you able to check the condition of your belt to see if any uneven wear was happening?

Bearings just dont shred for no reason. Plus, lots of folks are using the Kawi bearings with no problems.

If memory serves me the 2004 V2K's have a bearing problem and the fix for it is another bearing (sealed) from a bearing company other than the stock bearing from Kawi. I think Norm talked about this at Red Lodge.

Norm?

Evidently, 'Boca' are the replacement bearings of choice.

I bought a Boca for my rear pulley and at >15K mile, is still on the work bench. A bud of mine has 35K on his 2004 and still is all original except for the low beam headlight bulb.

Default Howl from rear end

I am thinking I may have a bearing problem. Not sure yet. I have a howling noise coming from the back after riding for about 10 mins or so. I saw this link http://www.newsnot.com/~emonk/pictur...g_Replacement/
Which has a recording of a bad bearing. But mine isnt sounding like that. Everything is quiet until I get under way.

I did notice that the belt is close (touching) the outside rail of the sproket. In other words it doesnthave space on both sides. I was thinking maybe that the sproket was slightly missaligned and causing the belt to rub against the outside making the howling noise. any ideas? Can anybody tell me where there belt is riding, down the middle or closer to one side or the other.

I thought my VN2000 was making too many noises. I took it back
to the dealership with just 135 miles on it. I thought the belt was
too tight. The mechanic said it was okay. At 5,000 miles, I got a
big screw in the tire. I jacked the 2000 onto the stand, and took
the rear tire off (thanks to a service manual I have in a *.pdf format).
When I put the new tire back on, I didn't tighten it down at tight as
original. I have almost 7,000 miles now, so I hope all is good, and I
hope the bearings are happier (assuming there was no original damage).

My dealership mechanic said my tight belt was O.K. also on my 06' 900. He sprayed some silicon spray(?) on it and it was quiet for a while but I can still hear it at times. 2-year warranty so I'm riding.
Read a post on a thread here that said chapstick was good on belts.
