Default Greasing the rear splines on 04 Vulcan 750

Hello to all,
Just removed the final drive unit to pack the rear of the drive shaft and grease the splines (front & rear) with moly60 lube. The bike has close to 6k on it. I packed 17 ml (clymers' manual) almost 3 teaspoon of moly 60 grease inside the shaft & spring.

However, when I try to insert the final drive slowly back in, I see some grease coming back out passed the "O ring". I did this 2-3 times and I always have some grease come back out as I push the final drive back in. I made sure no air is trapped & inspected the "O ring" it seemed Ok. Did I maybe put too much grease, should I not worry about it or try to remove the final gear again and clean the extra grease off?

Thanks in advance for all replies and happy riding!
