Default Light Bar Connection.

I have had the Cobra light bar on my 900LT for at last 6 weeks. I had it connected to an auxialery connection in the head light housing. I had to flip the light bar switch to turn the light bar on. It could be turned on with the engine not running or the key not on. I personnally did not like this.

Today I reconnected to a red cable that supplies the lowbeam head light. MY light bar is now on only when the low beams are on. I could have connected it to a red wire supplying power to the amber running/turn signal lights. The LB would remain on at all times when the key was on attached to this wire. The red wire supplying power to the running light was not a large as the wire running to the head light. If I knew that smaller wire (turn signal) would not creat an isue I would connect to it.

Has any body on the forum vconnected to the small wire supplying the amber running lights.

Yes, I did that. BUT, I connected that wire to my switch for the running lights and from the switch it goes to a relay. I used one of the supplied and fused aux. wire sets for the power though. Using the turn signal source to activate the relay will not cause any worries. However, if you want to use the signal wire to power your aux. lights I would think that would be a big mistake. Rich and others on here know a lot about this stuff. Perhaps they will help you out. Good luck.

Yes, that is where you really want to get your power for your light bar...from the amber running lights. For this connection, the light bar will not come on unless you turn the key. For me, I always turn off the light bar on the switch before I turn off the engine.

The wire that you should be looking for is a RED wire with BLUE tracer. You connect the black wire from the light bar to the above mentioned wire from the amber running lights. Good Luck.

Whether you wire it to high beams, low beams, or running lights, USE A RELAY. Run the relay from the existing light circuit of your choice, but take the power from that 10 amp auxilliary, and fuse it too.

I'm not kidding. I've heard too many instances of Vulcans burning up the ignition switch because people added lights to one of these three circuits, and did not use a relay, overloading and melting the switch.

You'll know when this happens, because in the middle of a long ride at night, the bike will just suddenly quit.

And this isn't just owners doing this. Plenty of these were done by the dealers, according to the lightbar instruction sheet, with no relay.

Boy were their customers pi$$ed off when their bikes went dead.

One guy at the Vulcan rally said he had to go 20 rounds with his dealer because when the dealer changed his ignition switch, he refused to re-key the bike so it all matched. The dealer also refused pay for his towing to get the disabled bike to the shop, saying it wasn't his fault as he'd followed Kawasaki's instructions. Kawasaki, of course, wouldn't pay for it either. Towing's disclaimed in the warranty.

So if you do this wrong, you could be in for a bunch of irritation.
