Default Great Weekend Of Rid'in

Hi all, had a great weekend rid'in with a "unique" mix of bikes, we had a 1978 1,000 Gold Wing , my 06 Nomad, a 1100 Star, a Victory Hammer, two H-D Sportsters, and one Fat Boy!!! All had a great time running the KY backroads and I saw a few things that kind of made me wonder about some of the other bikes. The three H-D bikes all handled good but the gearing is typical Honda ratios, meaning they only wanted to go about 50 MPH, to much vibration above that speed, the Victory was the only bike with a six speed tranny, and his ratios are about the same as my Noamd's, we couldn't shift into high gear until around 60+ MPH, the Hammer is fast, but doesn't corner as good as the other bikes, the surprise is that out of all the bunch, my Nomad and the Hammer were the ony two not "rowing" through the gearbox trying to get up the hills, we simply twisted the wrist and went!! We had to stop about every 30 miles so the sportster boys could stretch, and I thought my seat was slightly painful, the point is everyone had fun, no one was concerned about how much each bike cost or how much power it had on a dyno, and for the record, mine got the best milage--4 gallons in 185 miles--in 4th gear 90% of the time!! I think I'll keep my trusty steed for many, many, years to come--ride safe--Chet

I gotta laugh. My buddy has a Road King Custom. When it starts up, the whole damn thing shakes. His fuel gauge, when the idiot light comes on, he had better be near a gas station within view because that bike will run dry!! I told him my 900, when the light comes on, I have about 8/10s of a gallon left. He's lucky to get 40 mpg on that thing. I get about 50 on mine.

Lucky...
