Default My 900 Classic solo seat

Okay, so after drooling over the Cobra Show bike, I decided I really wanted a solo seat. I know Mustang and Corbin say they arent making one but Im sure they will in time. So until they do, I took the hacksaw to my seat. Recovered the tail portion and threw a temporary make-shift plastic bracket on the back until I can make a better one. I really want to ride since the weather is going to nice over the next few days. With a little more touching up on the back part of the seat I think it'll look pretty decent.

I would like to fabricate a metal (chrome) cover that fits exactly over the rectangle hump directly behind the seat.

Also, I scooped out some of the foam where the tailbone and lower back meets and installed some 2# foam 1/4" thick along pretty much the whole bottom and now the seat is a lot more supportive.

So, I thought I'd post my progress.

Great looking custom seat. I can't tell that it used to be the original. That took some commitment.

Not bad! Looks really nice. I love the look of a solo seat. Looks like a different bike. Would be a tuff one to run by the wife. She's not interested in riding her own, I'll still be looking at the Corbin. Supposed to be nice here this weekend also, enjoy it while we can!

Nice custom job! I like the look. Shows off that big rear fender as it should be shown.

I don't suppose there is any way to slap a seat back on the rear for the wife?

Actually, I kept all the extra parts for the rear and will be assembling that tomorrow night. I am going to try and attach suction cups to the bottom of it and see how that holds. I see in my J&P Cycle catalog that they already make these.

I just want to make sure it's safe. I may end up putting a strip of plastic from the rear seat and also bolt that to where the front seat is bolted.

Good job i want a solo too but didnt know if i wanted to tackle it myself ,might do it now.Have you thought of puting a backrest on it to help hide the OEM latching posts.

Budro,

Yeah, I dont really like the backrest so that never really crossed my mind. But Im planning on putting some sort of chrome cover over that rectangle hump.

It wasnt easy, that's for sure. Im still probably going to redo the back portion. I'll probably wait until winter though.

There is! they have pillion seats that have suction cups at the botrtom so you can take it on and off when you want. Just do a google search for them. They work well and arent to expsensive.

I'll try and get some more pics up this afternoon.

Thanks for the comments.

Dagumol,

The seat still hooks in the front bracket like normal and I took a flexible plastic strip and screwed one end the bottom/back of the seat. Then you can see the other half of it behind the seat secured to the fender. This is where I need to finish it up so it looks better.
