I like the custom. Like the drag bars, 21" front wheel, cast wheels (which are pretty sharp in person), headlight, etc. Add a set of straight drag pipes, de-badge, and it really will look like a custom.
Just a personal choice, however. To each his own.

I had been trying to decide between the two also. I did a lot of soul searching before deciding. I sat on each one numerous times before finally deciding on the classic. I have been totally happy with the choice so far. The Classic just has more of the cruiser look that I wanted.

Ditch the drag bars for a set of risers and apehangers (or Gimp Hangers).
Deep six the alloys for diamond twist stainless spoked, Akront double drop aluminum hooped, color matched hub wheels. Rear fender and taillight is almost as bad as the 800A baboon butt. Needs a different fender. With a beehive, tombstone, or Indian Chief taillight. Drop the rear 3 inches. Solo seat. Flowing mirrors. Black out the fork sliders. It has potential... -Scruffy

I received the bike about two weeks ago, but unfortunately the weather was not so good. I have only covered about 160km on my Classic VN 900 and enjoyed every minute. It is a fantastic bike with very good roadholding. The agent in Malta is very helpful and his daughter who runs the shop/ showroom takes great care and interest in her customers. As a matter of fact I bought a number of accessories to personalise the bike. Hope the weather clears up as I can't wait to increase the mileage on the odo.

I have a 900 classic and love it! Tried both, the custom does look "faster", and there are some handling differences, though all minor. I chose the classic because i like that look, and my wife likes to ride with me on occasion, and the classic or lt are much better suited for 2 up. Now, if i could just find a better looking, chromed rear pulley for it I would have my "perfect" bike, at least for me! But can't go wrong either way.
