NONE of the Harley fairings are going to be a bolt-on for any Vulcan. You are going to have to fabricate or buy brackets.

Most economical option for the 1600 Nomad is the Wide Open Custom. It bolts to the stock windshield mounts. It's about $800 with stereo (4 speakers), and comes in unpainted ABS.
They'll paint it black for an extra $300.

Lobo,

I put a Boss Marine unit on mine with wired remote, I think the 60 watts / channel units are going for less than $200 with weatherband. With the "Y" splitter they sell ($18.00), the length came out perfect to put the remote on my left grip so I could mute / change volume on the fly. I use an MP3 player so no need to worry about CD's... The remote comes with the stereo.. no extra charge.

Mine is a 96' and later style that I made my own brackets for to mount on my jalopy.

Go and buy a Harley if that is what you want to look like. The Vulcan is a Vulcan and should stand for itself. Most will kill Harley's anyway. Not trying to be a smarta--. Harley is a Harley, Vulcan is a Vulcan. Pride. Dang proud of my Vulcan. Wouldn't trade for 3 Harley's.

That is a very clean mod! You did good! I haven't gotten around to putting a stereo in yet, but will get after it some day!

Actually, trying to make it Look like a Harley Glide series was the last thing on my mind. I wanted a stereo, a couple of power outlets, and some switches for driving lights.

There is a reason that everyone and their brother is making Harley batwing knock-off fairings. They are easy to make and install. A shell (inner and outer) and a couple of brackets, and presto, you have a fairing. I put mine together in my garage with a hand drill, a pneumatic cut-off wheel, a file, and a mig welder.

Maybe I shouldn't have whimped out and tried to modify / adapt a Goldwing fairing to it..............

And as a side note, I am very proud of my bike.

Thanks Lobo.

Here is one of the Boss units, they make several flavors. They discontinued the black series 1515 like I have though. Pity, the unit rocks (only 50 watts / channel though). The new ones are white or silver.

I searched long and far and these are the only units that come with the remote without paying an extra $70+ dollars for it.

I also am proud of my bike and I am not trying to make it look like a Harley. I used to have a Suzuki 550 that I mounted a Vetter Windjammer on because I wanted the freedom to ride longer in the season. If I could find something like that again I might go that route but I haven't seen them around anymore. I am looking more for a faring that will look good as well as keep the cold wind off. I am near the great lakes and in the spring, fall and early winter there are lots of good days to ride if you can keep the cold at bay. I am not really looking for a simple bolt on but I am looking to see what fairings that others have used from e-bay. I don't find any used fairings made for the Nomad and all the new ones look like the Harley models.

Another link is www.premeux.com. Nomad specific farings, trunks, bags, etc. Not cheap stuff, but real high class...

I do not know of any fairings out there that will fit the Nomad that are not the bat wing type.

Guess I found a new winter project... Find an old Goldwing fairing and see what I can do with it. I will have to get my evil scientist lab coat out and play some sinister music on my boom box....

Or try to design my own and learn how to lay fiberglass... lol...

I am sure the new Voyager could be adapted somehow, but seeing how they are not available yet and will be pricey when they do come out, there are not many other options out there.

How "waterproof" is that head unit, I've got a sony now that is horribly large and doesn't fit at all. My first headunit (a clarion) crapped out on me in the rain one day.
Also is that just black plastic you used to fill in the holes, mine are all still empty at this point, but I'm pretty much out of riding weather for a while so its time to tear it down and work on it a little more.

So far so good for mine, been caught in more than a couple of downpours. The heat exchanger unit for the amp is a finned external unit that is mounted to the back of the casing. There is only one small (maybe two?) holes in the case itself that they provide tape for to cover them up. They claim to have coated circuit boards, but I haven't taken it apart to verify that.

The CD player is behind the face (flips out) that is sealed with a rubber gasket. I don't use the CD player, only my MP3 player.

They also make a bulkhead jack (think that was $18 too) that I mounted in the right side hole for the Harley cables. It hooked right up to the Aux cables in the back of the stereo. I believe the new stereo's have an MP3 jack in the face of the unit now.

The large holes (speedo / tach) I used some lexan I had left over from making my larger lowers, then drilled holes in the center for my tach and voltmeter.

For the smaller gauge holes, I went to the Harley dealer and bought the plugs (for gauge delete bikes) that just snap in, then just drilled the holes in the center of them for my switches and power outlets. The plugs were only $3.00 a piece. The plug part number is 75106-96A.
