Default 2006 Electra Glide CLassic vs 1999 Nomad

I recently flew to Michigan to visit family, and while there rented a electra glide classic because I could not find and other dealer that would rent a bike . I put about 300 miles on it in 2 days of riding ( just wanted to see the sights on a bike, mostly around monroe).
The bikes comfort was similar to my 99 nomad ,suspension softened the bumps just as well ,the seat was also very nearly as comfortable as my kaw. The big top case was cool , but my friends all now me as the man who can never have enough storage space. On the other hand the radio in the dash was pretty much worthless couldnt hear anything but distortion over45mph ,although the hand protection form the fairing was nice.. But it does not come with lowers standard and I noticed the difference on the one cold morning ( 50% which was cold to this Az boy in sept.)
It seemed to have a little more acceleration from stop to 55 of course I was riding at sea level and My nomad is ridden here at 4600 ft so maybe someone else can speak to that for me. The Eg seemed to turn at slow to about 50 a little easier but was not as stable behind big trucks on the freeway as my nomad. I guess any 1 who has rode a Hd has felt the dance at idle,, man that bike bounces when your stopped. That might be why the mirrors had to be adj every now and than , I never have to adj my nomad mirrors after the first time. The FI was nice which is where the better acceleration prob came from. also it has a cool kickstand which once locked cannot be moved so the bike will not fall as well as not needing to bend over to turn the key since the ignition ( key) is on the tank. I do not like the HD turn signals very odd ,alot like bmw signals one signal on each side and shut off the same way although it does have auto cancel like my nomad.

All in all a good bike very comparable to my nomad ,, except no liquid cooling which to me is s deal breaker here in Az. try waiting in traffic in Tucson in100 degree heat with a air cooled bike. also the price difference is just not justfied. Not im my mind anyway.

We're not talking about a 1600 or road king so it should be alright. Besides it's 9:00 in WA. and 2 wheel fun is showering with his parrots about now so we'll have some time to debate before he pops back in.

If you like the look of the electra glide and the storage space with top case, here is a site of scootwork with a touring kit for the nomad

Looks like a pretty fair comparison.
Only thing that appears lacking in the 'Nad is acceleration.
Yup... a '99 'Nad compares pretty well to a new Harley

I hear ya Rich, but the fact you can even compare a little ol Nomad to the world's best makes me smile all the way to the bank, nothing wrong with H-D'S but they surely are superior somewhere for the x-tra moola B BOY

    LMAO!!!!!

Woody...I didn't tell anyone but awhile back I gave the birds away to a new owner. The wife went on vacation and it was a perfect time for them to find a new home. We have peace once again and we're loving it!!!

You know I LOVE ALL MOTORCYCLES...so a good discussion about bikes is fine by me. I'm always impressed when grown ups can talk about toys and no one gets upset. I wonder how long it will take before punches are thrown.

Sometime I think I will visit an HD forum so I can read opinions from another perspective just for fun. Although not everyone on here gets down on Harleys, these discussions are mostly the same. Big boys toys, we are a funny bunch....and so predictable. LOL

Just don't forgot that the HD costs $498,000 more than the Nomad!

1 more Addon to my notes I did like the built in spotlights on the Hd and the Bigger tank , of course that has been addressed on the new nomads.

I got to ride a 06 Road King this weekend and of course the guy with the Road King road my V2K. We both came away impressed with each others bike. The HD handled differently than my V2K and was quick to handle. He said the power of the V2K was way impressive. Over all we agreed i comes down to what yu want in a bike. I did tell him that when my wife and I were searching for a new bike, we went to both of HD dealers and had problems getting talked to. But that said it is a dealer issue not a HD issue because at Street Vibrations the HD guys were really great to talk too.

Doesn't matter if it were gilded front to back, I'm not 'gonna spend big bucks on any air cooled motorcycle, period. I will buy them when the price is in line with the level of service it will provide me. It is all about what it will do for me, after all. I'm a little too old for fraternities, clubs, lifestyles, etc. If someone can use a bike when I'm done with it, great, I'll take their money...

I traded with a buddy, Roadking Classic (Anniversity) and my 99 Nomad, for about a hour. They were about the same performance and comfort. But my Nomad was a little bit more comfortable for me.

My Nomad at sea level feel and sounds like a different bike. It's way faster.
