My pretty 900LT now has the engine guard chaps and is ready to make winter riding a little warmer on the legs!
I can't say enough nice things about Chris from Sage Brush Designs!!!! His web site was recommended on this forum for the engine guard chaps. When I went to his web site he didn't have any listed for the 900 yet. I emailed him and he immediately emailed me back. We worked together and I sent him the templates and pictures he required. Talk about FAST customer service....it seemed like he had just emailed me that he received my package and they were delivered to my door!!!! My bike is coming together more and more the way I like it! Still need mufflers, but they will come one day down the road. Here are some pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheri |

Hubby is out of town this week, and I had it out today by myself I'm by no means a "pro" on the bike yet, but I've been taking it slow and easy. Cheri |

Nice addition. That'll keep Chazz and You warmer so you can keep riding all winter long right?

Nice work, I knew Sage would work with ya -you helped him and yourself
Now I can send this thread link to all the 900 folks who sees my Nomad pics with chaps and want to know where they can get em for their bikes You might want to post exactly what engine guards you have there -so folks reading this thread will know what to order if they also want Sage's well fit chaps. Or you could just edit that into your first post...

OK First let me say I love the chaps and want to add them to my ride but I have to ask a few questions for those out there who have had these for awhile.
1. Does the added drag decrease performance causing the engine to work harder (Higher RPM)? 2. Does the engine run hotter since there is nearly no air cooling anymore? 3. Do you need to remove them in the summer to keep feet and engine from overheating? I'm in Texas Hot Summers 4. Is there a gas milage decrease? I would suspect there would be. I love the look I'm just not sure if they are practical here in Texas Chilowee also has some cool leather wrap for the crashguard that still allows air through I may go with those but won't make up my mind untill I can get more info from you guys

Hey colby i have chaps on my nomad...MHO is:
1. With the saddlebags you’re pushing that much air anyway. Just my opinion – no wind tunnel tests to support – but it’s probably more aerodynamic than letting the air flow around you and your bags. 2. Other say, and makes sense, you actually direct more air into the radiator. Not sure if this is true but you probably get plenty of cooling. 3. IMO you will definitely not want to use these in the summer. We have mild winters where I live and although I love the chaps on the morning commute I often take them off for the ride home cause it gets a bit warm. 4. If #1 holds then I don’t think so…but no stats to prove it. ![]()

Hey thanks I never thought about the saddlebags causing drag. I'm sure your right on this. Now I just have to figure out if it's worth it to buy them since it gets so hot here. I may go with something like this with the four inch trim instead ![]() ![]() ![]()

2. Yes, you will quickly remove em when the temps climb above 75F. I'm riding in the same temps as you -and you will probably leave em on from November thru mid April. I prefer the way the bike feels when they are installed -you get less wind buffeting and a nice ride, but once the TX temps hit 75+ you will not like the "riding the space heater" effect they give. 3. The engine will have no problem with the chaps on the bike. They actually force a bit more air to get funneled to the radiator -so the reduction in side wind that might cool the engine is offset. But because of the heat that gets to the rider -nobody is gonna leave em on in the TX heat anyway. An ultimately you are riding a water cooled bike, so your bike will handle the heat fine. 4. Gas milage is a hard to document with or without the chaps, you won't even think about it when riding at 40F -the benefit FAR outweigh this issue ![]()
