    Default Advice From Nomad Owners

    Hey all,

I need some wise sage advice from you Nomad junkies:

I was hangin out in my local Kaw shop last Tuesday, and I saw this sexy little shiny new Nomad lookin all hot and ready for a new rider.

Anyway...............my local dealer is making me a SCREAMIN DEAL on this 2006 left over Nomad he has. No-mad has no- miles. He's offering me low 11000's plus a decent trade in for my 2006 Classic (which looks WAY better now than when I bought it.)

Here's my dilemma. I'm just freaking hooked on this 900. She's solid Ebony, which I love. The Nomad is the two-tone green, which looks real nice, and it's larger which is good cause I'm 6'2, but I'm just not sure it's me. Plus...I've dressed my Classic up all perty n' stuff, and got her just like I want her, and she rides like a dream and now trading her in seems, well, wrong somehow. (I had the same dilemma with my ex-wife, but that one worked out pretty good. ) I know it's "cheaper to keep her", but that pretty little Green Nomad was just flirting with me non-stop on the floor, and now I cant stop thinking about her!!!! Do I have Nomadness? Is there a cure??

What do you all think? Trade up for the Nomad or keep the Classic?

    Thanks for your help!

Well if you can afford it. I'd go with which ever one really gets your blood pumping, or heart beating.

If you REALLY love the looks and feeling of the Nomad, and you don't get it, then you'll always wonder...always...always...wonder...wonder..wonder ...

If you like going for long long rides, the Nomad seems to be the favorite...But it's your choice..

The big problem is, I think there will ALWAYS be another bike out there we'd all like to have....so when do we stop and keep the one we have???...

I'm no help at all, am I?

Find someone who will let you drive one it may help you make up your mind. The Nomad's hard bags hold a lot of stuff. Also it is shaft drive which will feel diffrent from your 900's belt drive. It will also give a passenger more confort with the lower positioned floor boards.

    6'2" = 1600 Nomad. You shouldn't argue with math!!

Letting almost any bike go can be difficult. It'd be nice if you could have both of them. Since your wanting to see what the grass is like on the other side of the fence...you may as well have a go at it or you'll just do it later anyway.

While your 900 is sweet (yep, real sweet) it isn't a Nomad. The ride is nicer, the power is better, and the comfort level is the best of the Vulcan line. Your SO will really appreciate the difference.

Yep, get the Nomad....Don't overthink this thing. The Nomad is an awesome machine. You won't regret it. I'm still with my Nomad after repeated bouts with V2K sickness and I feel well served to stay put for a while.

Thanks for the quick input by everyone. You all seem sold on your Nomads. I'm going to start checking out the Nomad threads on this site and see if there are any typical problems, or if everyone likes em. I have to admit, the thought of a bigger bike is appealing. My buddy rides one of those Firefighter edition RoadKings and I've always admired the hard bags, etc. (Although not the $20K sticker price)

I may give the Kaw shop a shot at making me a deal I can't refuse.

    Thanks again everyone!

Uh...complaints? There are complaints about Nomads? Well, a couple.

Engine noises typical of all 1500 and 1600 Vulcans. They just rattle, bang and klunk. They're made that way, live with it. V&H Baggers do a fair job of disguising some of it.

Seat - it's about 50/50 on replacing/supplimenting them. We found the stocik seat to be a little too hard and went with a ProPad. Later we purchased a Mustang Royal. Still use the ProPad for long rides.

Power - Has enough to do the job in stock configuration. But, more power is always nice.

Reliability - It's a rock. Everything that has gone wrong on the bike was becasue of something I had done or caused. And that aint much.

Chrome - There are too many accessories to buy. It'll do a number on your pocketbook.

Time - There just isn't enough time to ride it. Thank goodness that I can use it to commute during the summer.

All together, I've put almost 18,000 miles on my Nomad in the past year and a half.

I may drool all over everyone's V2K, and even pound my seat for one, but the reality is that, for my ridingstyle and purpose, the only other bike I would consider would be a Gold Wing.

There is one very important issue you must consider if going to the Nomad.
During and after a ride your smile may become a bit exaggerated like that kid in the Honeycomb commercials.

The same thing happened to me, went to a Honda/Kaw dealership last fall, saw a green/silver Nomie and wondered "WHAT IF", to make matters worse, my wife sit on it, bad move- all winter that's all I heard about, much more comfy than my VTX, so this spring, BOUGHT IT!!!! No regrets whatsoever, would do it again in a heartbeat, only REAL issue, is the seat- but that's a issue on every bike, had a beautiful custom Ultimate "Big Boy" seat on my Honda, that's the only thing I miss, gearing is perfect, motor makes a little weird noise but that's what gives a bike it's soul, Wings aren't to exciting to me and they sometimes have some expensive issues (seat, gas milage, bad head bearings, electrical gremlins, eat tires, ect.) no problems from Kaw, some lack of dealer knowledge problems, but nothing serious.Just got a trailer and a hitch to go on some lloonngg trips next year!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!! B BOY

My wife has the 06 900 and I have the 06 silver/green nomad. I'm like you at 6'2" I have to say that the nomad is a perfect fit for me. The wifes bike is fun but not for big guys like us IMO. I think you should get what will make you happy. I would ask for test ride first then go from there. I love my nomad and wont be trading it for a long time. So go with what works for you. Another response that didnt help I bet! LOL You can see my ride in my profile and have done alot to it since this image was taken.

Nothing but more Nomad love from me! I'm also 6'2" & found a darn good fit in the Nomad. Highway pegs, risers, & a backrest really dialed in the comfort for me. You don't find many complaints with these bikes & I think for good reason..... They're hard to beat for the niche they're designed to fill & they're priced right. Got mine for 11,500......I say go for it.
