No, you're not a wimp, but that is a sign of bad circulation in the hands. Maybe you need to get it checked.

Here's a trick to keeping the hands warm with gloves. Buy the gloves a little on the large side and keep the fingers from touching the ends by stuffing cotton balls in them. The cold enters the hand through the fingertips.

Sounds odd to me, but hey, I'll try anything until I find something that works to keep my hands warm.

I don't think I have bad circulation. Everytime they hook up that oxygen monitor on my finger it's always way up towards 90 something %.

But I ain't no doctor..

Lord GT, you may want to consider this:
http://www.gadgetjq.com/hand_wind_deflect.htm we all have brush deflectors on our ATV'S and I got thinking, maybe that's why our hands don't get so cold, you could use wingnuts to remove them when warm and even make them a little more attractive, you could really go over the top and have the backside painted to match the "Falcon", just a idea! BB

LordGT:
When you were in the Harley shop buying gloves, did you see the removeable fairing that Harley offers. I saw it at Street Vibrations here in Reno and it takes about 60 seconds to take it on and off. I asked the rep if he knew if anybody offered one for a V2K. I think it would be nice in the winter because it covers your hands and you don't get the wind. Just a thought.

No I sure didn't, I'm not sure what it would look like.

Is it one of those Bat Wing farings?

Yes, it is a small version of the Bat Wing Fairing but removeable. It wasn't our local Harley Dealer that showed it to me but the regional Rep. Those guys were really nice and said to contact them if I ever want to change bikes. I just can't seeing changing the V2K though my wife would kill me because she loves the V2K and so do I.

LGT,
Try some Olympia riding gloves. I've got a pair that are wind proof and water 'resistant. They are mid gauntlet style and run about 40 bucks. Flexible black leather (I think)and the inners are thinsulate. I've had them soaking wet from cold rain and they still keep my paws warm. They are the only gloves I use in winter. Stay Warm and Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else on the forum.

LGT,
Mine are the Olympia Model 180 'Monsoon' gloves. Looks like the price has come down a few bucks. Good deal on a good glove.

I looked a little closer at these. They say they are windproof, and don't get damaged getting wet. But they say they are NOT insulated, and are great for COOL days.

You mentioned that yours have Thinsulate. The 180 does not have that. Are you positive that yours are the 180?

I would install a set of heated grips. They'd be perfect for you, cause it gets cold enough for your hands to freeze, but the heated grips would let you wear your "regular" gloves. It's the first mod I do on any bike. They are great for when you get stuck in the rain as well. Best $30 you'll ever spend.

Does this mod limit you on what type of grips you can put on?

I was going to put on the ISO Kuryakan grips everyone likes so much. Which are fatter, and have the the padded squares along the grip for comfort, yet let air flow around the hands.

So, do you have to use a certain type of grip for heated grips, or do they install on all grips???

Not at all. That's why these "cheapy" wrap around are the way to go. You can install any grip on top of them. Not sure how they'd work with ISO grips, cause they're a lot of metal aren't they. They might eventually warm up, but these grips obviously work better with just rubber grips.

I like riding in the cold. The other night, it went down to 38 here in NYC. I rode home from work at night from the South Bronx to Brooklyn.

FYI. I was in the Harley shop last weekend...and they had a number of pairs of good looking chromed style heated grips. It was the first time I saw a decent set of heated grips.....usually they are plain black rubber ones.
