Default ... Just bought a 2007 Mean Streak ...

just wanted to jump into the fray...

after not riding a bike for about 10 years (one year of riding a honda shadow 750), i finally bought a new MS. i rode it around for 25 miles or so tonight, and had a blast. truthfully, it is a bit too fast for me at this stage, but i'm sure i will grow into it. i'm looking to take some riding classes to improve my skills, not sure where yet. (ideas?)

i'm still not good at taking off in 1st gear turning left...

anyway, i'm very glad that i decided on the 1600 and not the 900. i just felt like i didn't fit very well on the 900. (6' 4" - 210lbs)

and now i can ride up the mountain to my cabin with ease...

groove,
meeble

Meeb,

Welcome to the forum! You came to the right place. Enjoy the MS and ride safe, and I agree, the 1600 is the way to go.

Feels like it to me too! That whole divorce mess took 16 months to get through but now it's done! I've been a little distracted as you might imagine and haven't been able to enjoy my BTK brotherhood. Been riding the VC and the FJR a pretty good amount so saddle time has made up for lack of time online. Good to be back and visit with the group here! Thanks so much for saying Hi! BTW, how is AR? I was up there in Mt. View on the FJR a month or so ago and spent an enjoyable afternoon riding the area, it's beautiful.

Meeble, welcome to the forum, and you chose a great bike!!!

We still are looking for pics.

As far as the riding course, the most recommended one around here is the MSF Basic Rider's Course. That is one really neat class. It is 3 days, and about 1/2 classroom, and 1/2 hands on. You get to ride their bikes, and if you make a mistake it's their bike that gets damaged. I recommend the MSF Course hands down.

Congrats on the bike!

As for rider training - you can't get much better than the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) course. Here in Texas it's a two day weekend class. First day is mostly classroom and second day is riding their bikes. For the beginners course you would not ride your bike. There is also an advance couse that DOES use your bike. I would not recommend that until you have some time on the bike though. Lots of low speed cone manuvers.

Check with your dealer - I'm willing to bet they can hook you up with a number to the nearest MSF course.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Excellent choice (I just put money down on an '07' Meanie last night)! Looking forward to seeing some pictures. Get that digital camera fired up.

As the others already mentioned, the MSF course is invaluable. In PA, we sign up through the Department of Transportation. Don't know the rules in your state but you should do it!

Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the Forum.

Although the 900 is a great bike you should get the one that fits you best.
