I've been keeping an etye on that discussion. I don't think I would mess with my bikes internal programming. I think the jist of the mod. is to cheat the bike into thinking something has not occured, so that the bike holds something (not sure what, timing, rpm's) longer...to gain more performance.

I think an analogy would be to feed an elephant a case of Red Bull and let him loose. Red Bull or not, he's still an elephant.

The installation of the resistor mod is simple enough in of itself. It is run inline with one of the sensor wires that is under the seat of the bike. i've read where some V2K owners are actually fabricating a removeable connector which they place inline, so they can easily install the resistor and then remove it if necassary to return the bike to stock.

it'd be my guess that it allows more performance out of your stock V2k...almost like one of those computer boxes you install on a Superduty Diesel rig

Their are about 1/2 dozen threads running right now on the Delphi Vulcan forum about this mod.

http://forums.delphiforums.com/kawvulcan/start

Then find the Vulcan 2000 section on the right. You'll see the threads.

The simplest explanation I can get out of all the posting about this is that the resistor mod. fools the bike into thinking it is in 4th gear, no matter what gear it's in....supposadly this yields better performance.
They say that they figure the bike has been restricted in the first three gears, while it is not in 4th. This is supposed to correct that.

This mod. was the brainchild of Partong, he is the fella with the turbo's Nos equipepped V2K.....I believe he is a rocket scientist or sumthin, and enjoys experimenting with is V2K.

well, that would explain those 4th gear roll ons starting at 60

I was just interested, Because I was reading that on Delphi, I could not find what they were really talking about. I dont know if I would do anything like that, I believe I have all the power I can handle at present.

Below are quotes from Delphi forum members that kind of explain what the resistor mod does:

"the gear positioning switch sends back a different resistance in each gear, which gives the motor less timing in each succsessive lower gear. Partong is trying to have a switch override it and give full timing in all gears."

"This mod will be 2000 only. It's main function is to override the ignition retard. The ignition is retarded in the lower gears (Although none of us is sure how much yet) as a way to keep us from hurting ourselves with too much power. Since many of us believe you can not have too much power we are trying to get rid of this safety feature."

Speaking of retarded that's kinda how I feel when I try to make sense of how this mod actually works . But I don't feel too bad cuz the guy who developed actually is a rocket scientist.

However, I may give this mod a try myself, but only after I hear back the results from some of the other Delphi forum members who have tested it out first.

I'm going to get myself a resistor from shooter, a member on the Delphi forum. He bought like 60 of them, and is parting with them to members of the Delphi forum.
I'm not saying I will install and keep this "resistor mod" on my ride, but I'm gonna wire it in temporarily, just to see if their is any real difference via my butt-dyno.

The reviews from Delphi members on this mod are starting to come in - looks like it may be worth doing:

"Craig I had a chance to ride a little today. Holy smokes! I can't believe adding that tiny resistor makes that much difference. On the road I had a chance to really get into it, the beginning of 4th was all the space I had left. You are right about first gear, it's more useless than before. I could barely shift to 2nd fast enough. Second is where mine showed it's grunt the most.

This is too easy not to do.

Thank you again for your idea. Your a genius. You must be a rocket scientist or something! LOL!"

Isn't this the same resistor mod that's been been done on the 1500's and 1600's like forever?
