Default Nomad models

What's the difference in a "G" model and an "L" model Nomad? I've seen pipes listed for '98-up "G" models and wonder if the will fit my "L"?

hmmm I cant seem to find my title which would tell what mine is but i sorta remember that one letter was for canada bikes and the other was for U.S. Bikes and another for like 06 and up or it means it's a 1600 nomad or something like that. If I'm wrong some one here will fix my mistake

Right, if it's not FI then it's carb'd and if it's not carb'd then it's FI. If it's neither then it's a bicycle. Pipes may be the same but it's best to consult the pipe manufacturers web site and compare product numbers to be sure. Seems to me there were some frame changes in the later 1500 Nomads that may affect exhaust pipe mounting but I could be wrong.

Careful... the paint code is also there.
My '06 1600 Classic is a VN1600E6F, denoting 1600, E = two-tone paint classic, 6 = 2006, F = California.

If it has a petcock, it's carbed.

But yes, your G model is carbed, but the pipes, IIRC, are the same.

Mine is an "L" but the pipes I'm looking at are for a "G". That's why I was asking.

My 2007 Nomad is a 1600 D7FAL. D must be the two color, 7 is the year, and F is California. So what does the A and L stand for?

They changed the system in '07
Nomad:
VN1600D7F - 49-State
VN1600D7FA - 49-State
VN1600D7FL - California
VN1600D7FAL - California

"A" denotes the 2-tone paint.

Meanie is similar:
VN1600B7F - 49-State
VN1600B7FA - 49-State
VN1600B7FL - California
VN1600B7FAL - California

And Classic:
VN1600A7F - 49-State
VN1600A7FA - 49-State
VN1600A7FL - California
VN1600A7FAL - California

2006 was:
Nomad:
VN1600D6F
VN1600D6FL
VN1600G6F
VN1600G6FL

Meanie:
VN1600B6F
VN1600B6FL
VN1600F6F
VN1600F6FL

Classic:
VN1600A6F
VN1600A6FL
VN1600E6F
VN1600E6FL

This is very interesting... as I now have a very unique license plate, since 2006 was the only year for the VN1600E model!

I own a VN1600F6F, could someone explain the "F6F"? the bike was purchased new At Gowanda Starcraft, Gowanda NY. I Don't seem to find the "VN1600F" listed on exhaust manufacturers websites. Is this because it is a California model?

Mean Streak, Federal... I think special edition (you have the "custom" paint right?

Like my two-tone 1600 is a VN1600E, it's the same as the A, so if you have a Meanie, you'd be looking for parts for a 1600B.
No difference on pipes between the federal and CA models.
In fact, you can use pipes for an A model as well. Nomad pipes use the bag brackets for support and won't fit without some fabrication.

I have the same bike as Rich, when I got it I thought there was no after market parts for it cuz it was a "E6F" model....little did I know, all the "A" parts fit it. LOL..........the local dealer didn't even tell me this..LOL

Hey Rich is that true that they only made the E6F for 06???

The 6 designates a 2006 model, so yes

The E indicated 2-tone, but in '07 they change it and it's now a VN1600A#F, with an FA for 2-tone and FAL for California.

Makes me wonder what they're planning to do with the "E" designation.... maybe a "Custom" model 1600 in a year or two? Or maybe they got tired of people complaining that they couldn't find aftermarket parts for the E model.

So I have a somewhat unusual plate....

It's all readily available.

I get paid to find answers to odd questions... the internet makes common stuff easy by comparison to traffic signal equipment.
