Since I like to do comparisons, my "uncorrected" run with just the BAK at 76 degrees (your best run was at 72 degrees) you pulled almost 8 more ft/lbs of torque and 10 more hp with the "big 3 mods", air/efi/pipes. Your earlier run was 3 hp less. Did they give you a "corrected" chart? That reduces the influences of temperature, humidity, etc. Did they remap the PCIII based on the first dyno run results? |

Im not much of a wrench so for most things I don't really know. I just got things on the dyno cause I had just spent all that money on new intake and exhaust and figured I might as well make sure the bike is running smooth.
All I really have to go off of is the print outs. They did tune the map that was on my bike, and according to the mechanic I had a couple pretty big gaps where the air/fuel was off. |

The link below is a great read I found...Dynojets and how people run bikes on them usually give you inaccurate results and overinflated numbers. So I guess what I'm saying is take any of these dyno graph printouts with a open mind as there is some error factor there, sometimes alot of error. I might also add what increases you see on a dyno doesnt equate to a faster bike when you actually ride it. Nothing beats actual pavement pounding heads up racing against a good known running consistant bike and then appying your mods and see if they work or not.

hey i would love to know what the specs are for a stok vulcan vn900 classic 2007. i been curious about it. i went and added a conbra FI2000R to it and a set of drag pipes from cobra and i am awaiting for the hyper charger and the k&n filter. I feel K&N will not make a filter for this bike so i will have to do a hype charger for it later this year. But i would it if some one can email me the base horse power and tork specs are 3700 rpm and at 7 rpm. I have had this bike up to 125 so far before my head hurts from the sound.
thanks wolf |

Assuming traction is sufficient, 1/4 mile times are largely about power to weight ratio.
A Vulcan 900 weighs about 550 pounds (forget the rider for this rough calculation.) A mustang weighs about 3500 pounds (rounded to make this easy as well, but close enough). That is about a 6.3 times difference. So, a gain of 10 hp and 10 Lb/ft for a vulcan 900 is roughly equivalent to a gain of 63 hp and 63 lb ft for the mustang. Comparison: stock mustang 300 hp 330 ft-Lb of torque hypothetical modified mustang: 363hp and 393 ft-Lb of torque Stock VN900 custom 40 hp and 50 ft-lb (rounded) Modified VN900 50 hp and 60 ft-Lb I would venture to say that there will be very little arguement that a 363 hp mustang all things being equal will leave a 300 hp mustang far behind on the 1/4 mile. Same is true for a 10 hp boost on a VN900... 25% hp gains are rare and beautiful things! Now if only my pipes would get here so I could post my 25% gain!!!!! Cheers

Had my 900 dynoed last weekend sorry no scanner to post the chart. Here are the corrected run results Max. Power 54.43 HP Max torque 57.23 ft-lbs. They did four runs all were very close to the above. My mods Cobra speedster longs, Thunder teardrop air kit and Cobra fi2000r. Air/Fuel was slightly rich till 3500 RPM then bang on all the way to the rev limiter. It was not out enough to worry about tweaking the fi2000r settings. Oh forgot my local dealer was giving out $25,00 off coupons in the end the dyno cost me a whopping $35.00.

Hi Everybody,
Well, at long last I got my Roadhouse 2 into 1's. A company called Motoworks took over Roadhouse over the winter, and have done an awsome job of getting back into production. A super guy named Dusty will take great care of you if you call them. I recommend you do, great sound and awsome power gains. Anyway, I am glad I waited. I got my bike dynoed today, and the results leave me smiling: Corrected to STP (SAE 1.02 on this run) Note: AF colours are backwards to hp/Torque ...oops. Also, the first run was with a map I downloaded from Powercommanders web site for HK sideburners. I got me to the dyno, but was out of wak for AF. Custom Map Results: 60.88 hp 60.68 lb-ft with > 50 lb-ft from about 2250 to 6300 rpm Comparing (and I know we only do this with a grain or two of salt) stock dyno numbers I've seen in the range of 43-45 hp. that would be over 35%- 40 % gain in hp!!! (smiling again). Man, its like a different motor. Pulls like crazy right to the rev limiter, and have to actually watch how much throttle I use exiting a corner... will break the back tire loose pretty quickly now. Just for reference I have a Barons BAK, PC3 USB, and Roadhouse Classic 2 into 1 pipes with standard baffle. I will post a pic of the bike soon. Here is the dyno chart. By the way, anyone needs a good dyno man, call Andrew at ATR. He is an engineer/Bike motor builder with a full Dynojet-Tuning link set up, and really knows his stuff. ( I am also an engineer, and was really pleased to find he knows a lot! about motors.) Cheers all.

Hi Tom E,
Don't forget the 'generic' map was actually a specific map for a Sideburner 2:1 on a VN900 downloaded from the powercommander website. For 100% throttle it was very good at all but the top end where it got a little lean, and a little rich in the mid range. The graphs I posted are for WOT (100% throttle) only, and so differ only a little. We are spoiled a little with FI I think. An A/F ratio differing by less than 1 from 13.0 is not a huge difference. If you look closely, you will see that except for the last 1000 RPM, the downloaded map was within less than .75 of the target 13 +. The downloaded map was actually quite good at WOT. After tuning the map, throttle response is much better throught the rev range, and mid range torque feels much better at partial throttle... after all, while I Love accelerating I don't pull off at full throttle every time I want to change speed. I spent about an hour going over the graphs with Andrew at ATR, and am quite happy with the results. Anyhow, the butt dyno is very definitive. Cheers, Chris

Hi Tom,
I think the point is that they are very close almost everywhere. A/F within the range I mentioned makes very small changes. If you put the two curved into perspective, the HP and torque are within 5% of each other, and the A/F varies a little less than +/- 5%. We are almost in the noise here. If you look at other Dyno runs for the 900 you will often see fluctuations in the A/F that seem to make no difference to the Hp/torque curves. Again, I think you are forgetting that the scale of the graph makes the A/F fluctuations look more than they are. The engine will likely make about the same power with A/F anywhere from 11.5 to 14, what would happen is that the motor would either carbon up, or melt (respectivley). Besides, the bulk of the power and torque improvements are from the pipes/ air kit. The custom map is more about nice throttle resonse and about the right A/F to prevent running lean (hot) or rich (carbon build up). Cheers,

I have to disagree with whats said above. the fuel mixture has a perfect point where its not to lean not to rich. The the perfect setting you can extract the most timing advance and get the biggest safest power gain. On these bikes i dont know how you advance or retard the timing though, not sure if these powercommanders give that kind of control...
Nseesee, id love to see what your 1/4 mile trap speed is if you ever make it out to a local drag strip. From what ive read a stock 900 should be around 89-90mph |

Hi Buttons,
Perhaps I overstated a little, however, with a PC3 you cannot change ignition timing on a VN900 (some PC3 are enabled to change timing but not in our 900 I agree that the 'right' A/F will give you the biggest safest gains, but that right value depens on all sorts of things, and changes with RPM and trottle position. It can be effected by bore/stroke, cam, throttle body size and configuration, and velocity stacks/intake configuration. If you are off alot you lose lots of power, however, if you are off a little, you may lose only a little bit of power or almost none, but you may run hot or carbon up you motor. The graph I posted shows a/f ratios varying less than 1 point above 2500 rpm except with the downloaded map going rich at the top end. One point (or +/- 5%) is simply not much. The reality is (and I apologise if I am not articulating this very effectively) that we're talking about less and less significant differneces when we are tuning down to the last fractions of A/F ratio. Anyway... I really want to see my 1/4 mile time too!!! I hope to go to a local strip later this summer. Can't wait to see how I go. I will certainly be sure and post the results. Thanks for you post!

After reading about 9 pages of info on Dyno's, including Air mods, pipes, fuel process, it looks like any VN900 only gets 8-10 hp from that. It sure seems like alot to spend $600-$800 for such a small hp gain. One result was BAK gives back 6hp by itself. Great reporting by all. I think when K&N comes out with their air filter in the fall, I will switch to it and thats about all.
One last thing, is everyone running Full Synthetics when doing these tests? Later BTF

I agree mostly. 6hp is pretty substantial when you onl have mid 40's. but a few people have only got another 3hp from exhaust and tuner. Tuner and pipes both costing 3x what an intake cost it seems insane to buy them. Most people get the exhaust for the sound and the added power is just icing on the cake. to make maximum power I think you need a 2 into 1 exhaust, as Nseesee has stated he currently has the highest known dyno for a vulcan 900 of 60whp He is using the 2-1 exhaust so in my mind that might be worth consideration. I will probably get the same exhaust and see if i get the higher dyno numbers... but i can only afford the intake right now. |

Hi Tom E, Buttons,
I will be (hopefully) going to Cayuga ( a local drag strip) later this month to thrash out a few 1/4 mile runs. Can't wait to see how it goes. Will be a hoot in any case. I am hoping to see 1/4 times of about 13.0 to 13.5 sec at somewhere between 95 and 100 mph. We shall see take care guys! P.S. I use plain old 10W-40 Mineral Oil, and Change every 5000 or 6000 km (3000 miles). My Kawi mechanic was leary of synth on clutch performance.
