Default Just added the new flame grips myself...

I bought the new ISO flame grips for my 900 a while back and had been debating whether or not I could do it myself. I had heard one of the forum members say that if you can change your own oil then you could change the grips...He was right! I started at the top of the stock grips, working them and trying to loosen them up. Once I got them a little loose I used my air hose and stuck the nozzle into the part that I had gotten loose. I kept working at it, blowing air to lossen them more and...what do you know...I got both of them off without cutting anything! I kept worrying about whateveryone has said about the glue drying on you upon installation of the new grips. I kept trying to dry fit the new grips onto the bars but they were really tight. I used just a little WD-40 to lube up the grips put the glue on them, lined them up and drove them home! What a breeze! I had worried for a week for nothing. I used the Universal flame grip # 6262. I think thats the #. Don't let this job scare you like it did me. You can do it, I did and I think they look great!

I agree. I install all my own stuff. Can't trust anybody else to do it right anyway.

Your description may have just convinced me to buy a larger compressor; not just a "tire inflator". My ISO grips should be here by next weekend.

Did you use the glue that came with the grips? Didn't the WD-40 compromise the glue?

NO, The WD-40 didn't seem to affect the glue at all. Mind you it has only been 24 hours. As soon as I stopped pushing the grips on they were there. I tried to see if I could move them and I couldn't. I only used a very small amount of the lube. The new grips are really tight going on the handlebars without a hint of some type of lube. They may come off some time later but my fear of getting them half way on and them stopping was greater then them not sticking at all.

I love the way the ISO flame grips look. I wish they'd been out when I got my ISO grips.

My hubby bought a gigantic compressor a couple of years ago (a big tank that sits upright--I don't know what size it is). I thought he was nuts because it's really overkill for our needs. But it sure comes in handy when I need to fill my tires.

Just put my new ISO grips on yesterday. Love 'em!
As far as I'm concerned one 'MUST' in the garage is a decent compressor

I also like the iso grips. Your going with the flame ones is a little different in that everybody gets the other kind. I also like kawi's grips (the straight line ones).
As an rc airplane modeler, I work with many types of glue. You could always use 30 minute epoxy. Or, goop. That way, you can get them on and line them up without the worry of the adhesive setting up too fast.
Grips, cobra slashers, engine guards, and a few assorted chrome covers are on my list for my 900. The engine guards are a definite must!!!! If you have dropped the bike just once, no matter if your in your yard, driveway or out in front of zillions of people, the price offsets the heartache of bent/broken mirrors and dents, not to mention the ego!

Lucky...
