Smile Dunlop tire pressure info on VN900 and others

I recently read a topic here about the tire pressure on VN900 and it gets a lot of attention and input from the forum members. I looked up the Dunlop website for information on D404 tires used on VN900.

Here is a general rule on touring tires: (go to http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/info....asp?id=31#tip)

"For touring motorcycle loading, follow these general guidelines:
A. Light loads-single rider with some luggage (up to 200 lb. total)-minimum tire pressure of 32 psi front and 36 psi rear must be maintained.
B. Heavier loads-dual riding and/or luggage (from 200 lb. total up to maximum motorcycle capacity stated in the owner's manual)-pressure of 36 psi front and 40 psi rear must be maintained.
Please Note:
For any dual riding or fully loaded use, 40 psi must be maintained in all Dunlop rear tires fitted to touring motorcycles."

For VN900 Dunlop tires D404, here is the specs:

http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tire...tire.asp?id=37

Hope you enjoy it.

I run 40psi on front and rear. Did the same on my old Mean Streak.
32 seems a little low to me.

HA! I exceed their version of "light" just getting on the bike w/o anything else!
Guess I'm in the right ball park with 40/40 because until I go on a tofu and salad diet I will always be on the not-so-lightly-loaded side!

Thanks for the post. This was a good reminder to me, as I'd fallen into the habit of running only the lower pressures listed on the bike sticker. Of course you get a softer more comfy ride, and it seems OK, but you could end up like Ford and Firestone....

Ditto.
40-40 here.
Everyone whines about their tires being shot at 4k or 5k or 6k....

Here's my stockers at 7500:

Right about 3mm left on both... front probably has another 7k left on it, rear is probably going to be replaced in another 2k or so.

My wife and I together, the bike is loaded to about 500#... 100 over spec.

I went from 28 front to 34 and 32 rear to 38 after reading some of the posts from that earlier thread this week. I have 4500 miles now and if I get 10K of of the tires will to be seen.

I have 11,100 miles on tires now. Upping the pressure as above probably helped.
