Default 900 custom or 1600 meanstreak??

I can't decide which to get. I like the looks of both, but I do not like the speedo not being on the tank like the meanstreak is set up, much prefer tank speedo.
1) Has anyone ridden the 900 custom??? I used to have VTX 1300c, is the 900 custom with fuel injection comparable??
2) Does 900 have decent roll to pass traffic going 65-70mph??
3) Which is funner to ride, and is the big bore cruisers like meanstreak overkill for riding 65-85 mph??

I own a 900 Custom but I dont know anything about the VTX 1300c. I love the feel of the 900 Custom though, it has the feeling of a much larger bike. When I bought it I spent some time looking at the Mean streak and I liked it, but it did seem a big big for what I wanted. I think your best bet is sit on both and see what you like the feel of. As far as passing power I haven't had any problems passing. The gearing is setup for a LOT of low end torque which means a lot of roll on power. Probably not as much as something like the 1600, but my 900 is very comparable to a 1200 Harley I rode today.

So cruising 80 mph for extended periods is not a problem on the 900 custom?

I just traded a '04 VTX 1300C for a 900 LT. I love it, it has almost as much power, gets a little winded above 100 mph, but the 1300 did not. I am have a problem with the factory windshield that comes on the LT. At hioghway speed I am getting wind buffeting real bad. It comes up from both sides and shakes my head around. Am considering changing for a Memphis Shades Fats to solve that problem. Also, I am waiting for someone to come out with a larger front belt saprocket, maybe one or two more teeth. It would improve cruising rpms.

I took my streak out for a 3 hour ride yesterday for the first time. Sustained speeds of 70-75 with no windshield. I got 42mpg (its stock) and the wind was fine. It feels great above 60mph. I'm not sure what you mean by overkill. It felt very solid beneath me and wind gusts didn't move me, something sorely lacking in my smaller previous bike. Never been on a 900 though for a direct comparison. I think either way you'll be happy.

I went from an 800 to a streak. I loved my 800. That being said, it's not even in the same class as a streak. The meanie feels solid as a rock underneath you and can hold any line you want it to. I think it really depends on what you are looking for. I have not found any bags that I think look good on the meanie, however the lines of a 900 will hold just about any saddlebags naturally. I also don't like the look of a shield on a meanie. Same concept with the 900, a shiel looks right at home.

I probably will not go back to a bike <1500cc. If I wanted something else I would probably go with the V2K. I am actually already thinking about it.

I like a bike to have power and be able to cruise at 80 w/ out being too hard on the bike, hoping you are right about being able to do that. I liked the VTX1300, but the custom feels really nice, I just don't want to be down on power when people start to throttle it up a little. I know for a fact the VTX tops out at 97 mph, and I read that the 900 custom can hit 100, not sure if anyone can verify.

The 900 Classic can do 100 with throttle left over, I can personally attest to that.

Went out today did about 60 miles on the bike, most of it at about 65, but had no trouble going 75 and pushed it to 80 (by push I mean that was pushing it for me, not the bike.... I'm still a new rider) to pass someone and it was smooth.

I dont think there is a difference in the engine or drivetrain at all between the 900 Custom and the 900 Classic, is there?

NO, they are just about the same bike, the Custom has 1 degree different rake, different wheels, bars, front fender, and different pegs and that's about it.

Thumbs up

If you can ride 'em both, pick what you feel fits you best, I'd say you'd be happy with either!
