I have always used masking tape. Holds it in place until you have the baffle back in, and it will burn up harmlessly over time.

I wrap mine with masking tape. It`ll hold it all the packing together until the baffle is in place. The tape will char a bit,but it actually doesn`t stink or burn.

Masking tape. And if you want some packing that last a long time and tones down the pipes a bit, try this.

Go buy some chimney packing. Think asbestos wool... And I use a light wire to hold it in place. Lasts longer than fiberglass and masking tape (which do the job fine, I'm just a lazy cheapskate).

Wrapped my baffles with galvanized steel roof flashing first the put the old packing back on to hold the baffle in place ( V&H Baggers) changed the tone a bit but not any louder to my ear. The packing should never burn out again

I'd use either wire or masking tape and stay away from electrical tape, that would melt, and might ooze out...
