I use Amsoil 20w-50 in my VN800a. I performed the research, and Amsoil, in my opinion, is the best. It reduces the heat in the v-twins considerably. My radiator fan use to run regularly, but now it hardly ever comes on. They even have the filters that you need. Go to the Amsoil website and see the research for yourself. I'm also going to start using it in my truck. With their filter and oil, you only need to change your oil every 25,000 miles. I hope this was helpful.

^^^Bike is right^^^

Just stay away from oils that say ENERGY CONSERVING on the label on the back of the jug/bottle as the additives can cause clutch slippage.

Right now I'm using Valvoline 10W40W in my bike and once it has a few thousand miles on it I'll switch over to Rotella synthetic oil.

Rotella T is actually for diesel engines. I tried Rotella T once, but it didn't have the heat dispersing properties that Amsoil has.

Castrol 10W40 Motorcyle Oil. Its a mineral oil but I always change my oil at regular intervals especially before Winter Storage. Hopefully this oil is sufficient.

Everyone has good points and If I recall the best choice is...drum roll
a premium oil filter preferably with synthetic fiber and...test show Wal Mart is one of the better ones.

Other than that I use Mobile 1 Synthetic and Purolator filter.

10W40 Dino(no specific brand), Kawi filter.
Is it true that once you've gone synthetic you can't go back(to Dino?)

there has been much debate about that..................

in automotive circles there were some reports of a sludge or gel forming with a quick switch back to dino oil and some possible seal damage..
i have talked with several techs about this (even called mobile oil about it)
because i run mobile 1 in my LS1 motor in my car.i have never been able to confirm this myth from any mechanic so far and mobile said if the change is done correctly there should be no problems switching back-they also said that many oils that are called synthetic are actually blends of syn. fluids with dino oil. i keep hearing and reading about the so called dangers of switchback but i have not witnessed a single case on bikes or cars where that was proven to be the cause of any type of mechanical failure.

so for me i need more evidence that switchbacks cause problems
