). It's about riding in my mind. If you want to bash another brand, go somewhere else where they can take the low road with you.You know, it's one thing to razz each other like I do with the other guys about Ford/Chevy, it's quite another to cut at them seriously (aka, bash them).

I've been toying with the idea to change bikes, but I really like the size of this one, the way it looks, and the way it fits me. It really needs a saddle, but I'm torn between paying the big bucks for a dual seat with backrests for both driver and passenger and getting a solo seat, since no one in my family seems interested much in riding two-up. And, needless to say, don't want to make the investment if'n I don't keep it.

The 800A is, on the whole, a decent bike. The 800B is a decent bike. The 800 C/E are better.
Mine is getting tired. The fork springs and rear shock are done, kaput, croaked. The seat padding is completely collapsed. The steering head has play like a worn out kingpin. She's leaking oil, everywhere. She 's started misfiring, backfiring, and stalling. I can hear a slight knocking. Master cylinder switch is stuck in the on setting. Speedometer has been broke for a year or so. It's all fixable. So I will. Should take about 6 hours to correct most of it. A shim here, some new grease there, adjust this, fiddle with that... All part of owning a bike that gets ridden, often, and punishingly. I don't baby my bikes. I think my next one will most likely be a Drifter or a Classic. I rather like the 800s, ought as well try each flavor. -Scruffy

Thanks for the response. Guess I'm still new enough at this that I haven't quite decided on what stripes I wear. Spent some time at the sportbikes/tourers page this evening, and am wondering if a Concours or something of that type is in my blood...

Been there, done that, don't like them. Dirt bikes either.
I only like v-twins, parallel twins, and thumpers (four stroke street singles). Prefer really old ones, 19-teens to 1950s. Same for trucks and cars (and I despise 4 door cars). My wife is the family metric enthusiast. She likes Toyota, Subaru, Honda (bikes only) and Suzuki (bikes only). I'd rather have herpes than another Honda... I like the 800, quirky, but manageably so. I love my Savage, English style, knock off German electronics, 1960s Bay Area modifications... I'm 34. I'm on my 86th street bike. Most of the others were American or English. Like I keep saying, parts are parts, but it's too hard to get 1950s Japanese bikes and parts. Some beautiful machinery was made in that era over there. I'm curious to see how long the Vulcan holds up to my riding style. My 92 HD grenaded 4 engines and 6 trannies in 6 months... My second 63 HD police engine in a 50s rigid frame had over 250K on it when it got stolen... I don't expect 1/4 million miles out of the 800, but it should be fun trying. -Scruffy

I Love to ride and have not even been riding a year yet, When I ride My Vulcan its a great ride, but like others have said it is not the bike it is the feeling of the freedom you have when you twist that throttle, Having a good bike like the Vulcan 2000 Classic Lt Just makes it that much more fun and easier maintenace wise. It is definetly not fun if your bike is always breaking down. Motorcycling is a Great hobby because you can get out and meet people and enjoy yourself.
