I stopped by the local dealer to check on a couple of accessories for my 2006 900LT when I decided to stroll through the floor to look at the Nomads (just looking of course!). He had no 2007 models on the floor yet but he has a 2006 green/silver Nomad still in the crate that is getting ready to go on the floor. He said he would sell the Nomad for $10,500 and give me $5,800 for my 900LT whcih has 3000 miles on it. I did add a corbin seat, engine guards and a few other minor upgrades. My payoff on the 900LT is about $8,000. I'm awaiting a call back on the final offer and proposed payment. My main reason for wanting to upgrade is that although I do love the 900LT (my first bike) I would like to do some longer range traveling and feel the Nomad is the bike for that. Your thoughts are welcome.

Well, I don't even want to consider the financial ramifications of what you are doing (sounds like you are kinda upside down on your 900), but a green/silver 06 nomad is a great choice.

Hi Buzzman: Let me get this straight. Your going to spend about $13,500 (10,500 for the Nomad, plus 2200 loss on the 900, plus maybe 800 in upgrades on the 900, disregarding the 900's mileage) for a bike that retails new for 12,900. That's not even considering taxes and such. Consider selling the 900 yourself rather than trade but since your so upside down with the 900, it's going to be an expensive upgrade.
Not a bad price for the Nomad though. Tony Last edited by stargazertony : 03-29-2007 at 08:19 AM. |

The deals for the 2006 Nomad is good. Dealers are clearing out the 06 for the 07. The trade in is rather low! Clearly the dealership will bump up that price $1000 - 1500 more. You should advertise the bike and ask $7300 at least. When you install aftermarket stuff on bikes it will bring up the price.

I don't see any problems on my end, when it comes to 'long range travel' along the interstates of PA and MD. It always happens that everytime you do a trade-in for a newer and more expensive bike, you are at a loss. If $ is not significant in your decision, the upgrade is definitely worth it. Good Luck.

When I traded my old bike in for the Nomad, the dealer offered me $4000 for my old bike but ended up getting $5000. The dealer will lowball you and you HAVE to ask for more money for your bike. Good Luck!!

Nomad is a great bike. Getting more for your 900 would be nice. I was right there; riding a 650 and eyeing a 900, but went with the Nomad because I did not want to be doing what you are doing now.
This is a classic thread that we all help each other out with that says "should I go with this bike or this bike?" Is this bike too big? Yes it may seem big, but just take it easy and your wallet will thank you down the road. Like I said, the Nomad is a great bike and hopefully you can get it without suffering too much $$$$$$ loss. |

I am still working the dealer on the trade value and I knew I would be upside down on the trade. A price to be paid when you finance a bike and also get the jones to go to a bigger bike less than a year after buying the 900LT. I'm still debating and should decide by the end of the week. I appreciate everyone's feedback.

I just traded in my 2006 900LT for a 2007 Nomad, but I only owed about 3500 on the 900, the dealer gave me 6800 for mine with no mods. I would definately take off the Corbin seat and put all the stock parts back on, then sell the mods separately. And if you decide to trade you will absolutely love your Nomad!!

That's not really a bad offer for the trade.
KBB lists the '06 900LT as trade value at $4790, retail $6930 I'm surprised he's offering $1k over KBB.

that trade in is a joke! i traded in my vn800B which was 3 years old and had 16000 miles on it and i got $5000 for it. That trade in value he wants to give for a barely used 900 with all them accessories is silly.. i bet if you traded it in and came back later he would get close to retail, because of the extras you put into it... TO me thats no deal. the nad price is low but so is your trade in. so it evens out if not comes out higher than average.

As someone who just traded a 900 for a 1600,I can only tell you to do it. You wont be sorry. And all the numbers seem on the up and up. Good price on the Nad, in fact. I was upside down also, not as bad as you, but you bought a Kawi to start with, not a HD. That tells me you bought the bike to ride, not as an investment, so it should come as no surprise that the bike lost so much value.

I just traded an 06 900 Classic that I bought last October for an 07 Nomad. My classic was set up about like an LT except with cheaper bags, a light bar, and passenger floorboards. I hadn't ridden in several years and I didn't want to to start with anything as big as a 1600. My plan was to trade the 900 in a couple of years. Although I felt like an idiot, I finally figured out that the Nomad was what I really wanted and yes, I took a whoopin! I just turned 50 and at my age you can't always wait till it makes more sense. I decided to have some fun while I still could. I'm not looking at the paperwork, but I think I got either $6,200 or $6,500 for my 900. My Nomad listed for $13,099. You are going to wind up oweing about list price for an 07 model . . . a spanking, but not a life altering experience. You won't get that kind of deal on an 07 Nomad. I love my Nomad. I was surprised with the difference in stability and smoothness. The 900 is quicker and more nimble; the Nomad is heavier and has a little more stability. Here are some things I noticed other than the smoother ride: * The Nomad is heavier . . . . quite a bit heavier * The engine RPMs on the Nomad are lower at comparable speeds * The seat height is a little higher on the Nomad * The grips on the Nomad seem a little further forward (I find myself having to stretch so I plan to get some risers) * The lockable hard bags are very, very nice * The stock seat on both is a little uncomfortable. You'll probably replace the one on the Nomad too * The transmission on the Nomad seems smoother with less whining Bottom line . . . . I've not had any regrets yet. I'd do it again in a heartbeat! Mike

Hi Buzzman,
If I remember right, you had an earlier post a few months ago where you were thinking about selling your 900 because you were going overseas and you mentioned buying a Nomad then. Sounds like you are like me, needed a 1600 or V2K in the beginning but the 900 was good for you as a first bike and for me it was a finacial issue. I was just at the stealership last week and noticed a beautiful 1600 on the floor. I hope to payoff/keep the 900 and get a bigger bike. (Like Rabbit posted, "Best of both worlds".) Good luck on your decision. 06' 900 Classic LT Blue/Silver "Woodrow" |
