VN2000 rear noise gone--for now
Well, this weekend I dug in and went all the way to get rid of the squealing noise in the rear of my '05 Vn2000. First I had the rear bearings replaced, had grease seeping out after a ride to Miami. At the same time had a new rear tire added, 18,100 miles and 4th tire. Then I pulled the rear pulley, took it to my work and bonded the rear plate on with a Weld-on product that we use, I did this to prevent any movement that may be occurring causing it to squeak. Then I went into the front pulley and covered the outside of the pulley where it is swedged together with disc break squeal preventative. Lastly, I cleaned the belt with soap and water, something that a guy at the dealer said he had to do to his snowmobile belt when he lived in snow country when it started to squeal. Well the noise is gone and I feel safe to ride to Cherokee, NC later in the month. What was the fix? Probably the soap and water, it was the cheapest, with my luck, but wasn't going to spend all of that time in the rear and not cover every thing that I could think of. So, if you’re trying to get rid of your squeak, start with the least expensive and work your way up.
