starting problem ZL400

i just got my first bike, a Kawasaki ZL400

I only have one problem, every morning i have to warm it up manually.

the procedure i do is this.

1. pull on the choke
2. start the engine
3. when the engine is running with the choke it goes to 4,000 RPM
4. i then rev it manually and disengage the choke
5. i have to keep the throttle on as the idling needs to be adjusted.
6. adjust the idling until rev is over 1,000 rpm
7. leave the bike for awhile then bike RPM goes up to 2,000RM
8. i adjust idling to 1,000RPM, leave the bike for awhile again
9. bike rev goes up again to 2,000 rpm, i adjust again idling to 1,000
at about the thirds the bike begins to stabilize.

one thing i notice is that on the start i hear a clicking sound on the engine, but once the bike engine has stabilized the clicking is gone as well and the bike performs well.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

there is no problem there, you have to warm motorcycles, especially older ones, during the summer it may not take too long, but it is worth it

first ......why dont you just pull the choke down a bit so that it idles at 2,000RPM instead of holding the throttle ?
as for the CLICKING.......what kinda clicking ? where does it sound like its coming from ?

if i bring the choke down the engine stops.

click sounds like spark plug igniting without combustion. it comes from the left side around plugs during warm up.

i now have accepted the fact that i need to warm it up.

secondly, i do the carb jets cleaning now. the problem before was that the fuel tank did not have the fuel filter in place hence all the solid debris goes into my carb.

my fuel tap now has the reserve fuel filter and fuel filter inplace.

it took me 3 CARB CLEANING by the shop to deal with the problem.

when i got fed up taking the bike to the shop for carb cleaning i did it at home and cleaned the fuel tank , that is when i discovered that the fuel filter was OFF, it was just lying inside the tank and not on the tap.

retreiving the filter took alot of effort getting it out from the tank.

now i clean my fuel tank and carb jets by myself. saves me alot !
