Default Installing new mirrors on an 06 Nomad (problems)

Over the weekend I tried to install my new Kury Large Magnum Plus Convex mirrors on my 06 Nomad and ran into a problem. I got the throttle side mirror on and adjusted no problem. When I tried to put the left side one, nothing but trouble. I tightened the stem onto the bolt that goes into the handlebars, then tried to tighten the screw with an allen wrench that keeps the stem from coming loose. I ended up stripping this screw and the stem still came loose. I then tried to take the stem back off and start over, but I ended up breaking the bolt inside the stem. Not a good thing. Long story short, I have to new buy a replacement stem and bolt to install my mirrors. Back to the stocks for now.

What frustrated me is the screw inside the stem meant to tighten against the bolt to keep it from unloosening. There is nothing stating what size it is. I tried what I think was the right allen wrench, but ended up stripping it.

I was thinking about when I try the install again, I forgo trying to tighten this screw, and maybe using Loctite instead.

Does anyone have any experience using Loctite? If so, which one should I use?

I know several people who have installed aftermarket mirrors, and they are forever having to re-tighten them because they come loose and start spinning around while they are cruising.

Has anyone else installed these same mirrors? If so, how has your experience been with them in regards to them staying put, vibration etc.

Thanks

Aren't you supposed to buy an adaptor for all left-side mirrors on metric cruisers? It seems like I've read that before.

If you have all the right parts, I'm at a loss.

Yea I have the adaptors for the metric cruisers. That's the bolt that broke off in the stem. I'll have to now buy another pack of the adapter bolts as well as the stem.

Well, that sucks. I have no idea why you had that problem. I haven't changed the mirrors on my Nomad, but I've done it with other bikes with ease. Maybe it was just one of those days, huh?

Your probably right. A little overexcitment. The right one went on so easy, I just assumed the left one would as well.

That's because KuryAkin is cheap junk.

You have to use an adapter for both sides when putting aftermarket mirrors on a metric, but only Yammy bikes have reverse threads on the left side.

I'd just use an easy-out to remove the broken bolt from the stem and buy a new adapter for 5 bucks.
