For those with PCIIIs who find it takes longer to start their bikes here is why.
Since the Powercommander is powered by the stock Fuel injection connectors it will only recieve power after you press the starter, not when the bike is turned on. The PCIII needs time to power up and initialize. Normally it does a self diagnostic test and you see the LEDs doing some funky pattern. This is conclusive because while I was tweaking up my PCIII (Setting Throttle Position) I used the 9v battery to power it up, while connected to my lap top. Since the PC III was already powered up, the bike started instantly. (Side Note: While the bike is turned on (Not running) and PC III powered by 9v battery the throttle sensor will work and as you move the throttle the LEDs move up/down) __________________________________________________ _________________ Now my question for the technically minded. Since the PCIII is shipped with the older firmware 1.0.2 will it be benificial to upgrade to the latest firmware revision 2.x.x.x? |

This is a known issue on some bikes. They (Dynamic Research) has a cable mod for bikes with this problem that reroutes the power cable to tie in with the taillight power.

I can't seem to find this adaptor. I may build a circuit to reduce 12VDC to 9VDC and connect it to the 9v connector. This would resolve the problem, but an adaptor would make things allot easier. Last edited by Easyrider32 : 05-24-2007 at 02:25 PM. |

OK found a solution. DC/DC Adaptor from 12VDC. You can find these at many electronics store radioshack etc. I found one with a Cigarete lighter connector.
1.) Cut Cigarete adaptor, Strip Wires, Crimp Butt connectors. (Connect to 12V accesory power on Motorcycle) 2.) Cut other set of wires splice onto 9V battery connector. 3.) Connect 9V PCIII Adaptor to 9V battery connector. (NOTE: PLEASE CHECK POLARITY or you may damage PCIII) This will ensure that the PCIII starts up before turning over the engine. It will start just as well before installing the PC III. |
