Exclamation Easy Brackets Recall Tale

I ordered a set of easy brackets for my V2k, they are in the garage, need a set of bags still but thats another story. Yesterday, i rode the bike into the city for an all day training class, during the class my cell phone rings.

turns out to be a guy from easy brackets asking if I just purchased a set. well, yes i did! anyway, he goes on to tell me that some of the easy brackets tumbler locksets are not up to their usual quality AND when folks put em on and lock them in place either they don't lock and the bag can come off OR they lock and then break so the tumbler can't be repoened.

ok, GREAT!!.. so they are going to send me a shipping box to send back my brackets and fix the locks and then send em back to me...now, why can't they just send me a new set and i'll send them this old set?

GREAT!!...

Default Easy Bracket Recall Info.

I just got off the phone with Easy Bracket. Here is the scoop:

If you have a barrel keyed bracket, there is NO recall on them.

If you have a FLAT key bracket AND you placed or recieved the order between April 30th and May 22nd, they are recalled. If it's prior to or after those dates, they are NOT recalled.

You have two options if you have the recalled bracket. They will send a shipping label and they will pay for shipping. The process will take about 2 weeks. If you chose to do it yourself, they will send you the instructions and the 2 bolts that need to be replaced. He did say though that if you do it yourself and have further issues with this part, then you are responsible for it. (Such as it breaks from over tightening or something)

That's the scoop. Not sure what it takes to make a sticky, but maybe enough people will be talking about this we could hang this for a week or two to prevent the posts that are sure to show up from day to day. /shrug

Why does your EZ's not have the barrel lock? Mine do, and they work fine, no lockups and no falling off the catches.

Merged the two threads and stickied it.

If there's a general recall out there on these brackets, then this should stay at the top for a while so people can get the info without having to post a new thread.

Sorry you gotta go through this Dave.

This is a little (actually alot) off the subject, but it does involve Easy Brackets. I ordered Easy Brackets which were specifically designed for the 1500 Classic that has an installed backrest. One would assume that the bracket designed specifically for use with the backrest would include two 5mm spacers to compensate for the width of the backrest bracket. What I received were four longer fender bolts. Obviously regardless of how long the bolts are, the front of the bracket would always be offset 5mm from the back. Easy brackets did send brackets for the front designed for the 1600 which were a little longer. Unfortunately they were only 3mm longer. I ended up getting a machine shop to make the appropriate size spacers. Bottom line is, if you have a 1500 with a Kawasaki backrest, the Easy Brackets will not work with the kit that is sent!

Hmm, I handed the dealer the EZbrackets which I myself ordered. My Classic also had the F&S backrest installed. When I picked the bike up at the end of the day the mechanic made no mention that the bolts were not the right size. I did notice a couple of washers though, but everything looks good.

You're right, the bolt length was not the problem, it was the fact that 2 spacers were not included in the Easy Bracket kit. I'm surprised that the mechanic was able to find a 5mm spacer that was 25mm in diameter with an 8mm hole which fits the docking posts perfectly. It cost me $25 to get two made at a machine shop. Because of the size and angle of the shocks on the 1500 Classic I actually used those two for the back, and had two more 10mm spacers made for the front, which of course cost me $25 more dollars. This extended the distance for the bags from the fender an additional 5mm overall, which I thought made them fit better.

cause that means it would cost their company a set of brackets out of stock

even though it will be replaced, its money out the door - a good company would send you the material and ask you to use the SAME box. I would also save them shipping costs if they did it the right way - now they have to send you an empty box - makes no sense at all.

I was away this weekend on an out of town trip (great one by the way) and when i returned home, my brackets were back, i've not opened the box yet but i'm happy that the turnaround was only a week.

I did tuck a note inside my box explaining that i purchased the brackets to be used and i had an upcoming trip that ineeded them for....

might've helped? dunno

Question So.....

I'm going to assume that Easy Brackets has got their "stuff" together and the lock issue is a thing of the past. I just got a pair of LeatherLyke bags and it looks like I'll need mod. # EZ-VC-R1BR as I have a '97 Classic 1500 w/the factory backrest. Correct so far?? It looks like the best price around is from CruiserCustomizing @ $145.45 w/free shipping. Any suggestions or am I on the right track? Thanks in advance & Ride Safe

You may try Mean Cycles also, I think they are about 2 bucks more but you may get them faster. They'll tell you if they have them in stock or not if you call them.

When you put these easy brackets on are they solid and tight or do they rattle a little?
