Default chirping noise after scootworks pulley install

hello everyone,
installed a scootworks front pulley on my 900 classic today, went for a ride about 40 km 's did town and highway speed.when i got home i noticed it makes a chriping sound at very low speeds, sounds lkike from rear wheel area,
sounds like a rubber squeeking/ styraphome cup squeeeky thing.i can see a little rub mark on the outside edge of belt , maybe where it contacts the rear pulley side. belt still rides to the lh outside from the back of bike as before. could the bekt be too tight? too loose? i don't have a belt tension tool but measure how much delfection i had before and tried to make it the same after.
measured adjustment on both sides with a vernier caliper and it's bang on.

anybody?

OK 900 don't jump all over me but I think your alignment is still out especially if you are seeing rub marks....

well could be , so how do i align it properly?
what i did was measure how much adjustment bolt was left past the nut on each side with a set of calipers , made them exactly the same, when i changed over my tire to the 200 a couple months ago i did the exact same thing and it was fine then , not saying it is perfect now, i obviously have a noise.someone on here said on another post that you have to change the belt tension different than from the stock pulley cause the new pulley is bigger it will affect tension, so should it be looser or tighter than the stock setting?

Both my wifes 900 LT and my V2K like the belt tension set between 2 1/2 & 3 tick marks deflection.

I assume you already know there is a plastic guard around the belt with a window and tick marks along side to measure the deflection as you push up on the lower part of the belt.

Belt adjustment is off. Takes a bit of playing around but you can get it to ride correctly with some effort. Set your belt adjustment at what lordgt said and then use the right side tensioner to adjust where the belt rides on the pulley. The noise is probably due to the belt being too tight and/or riding against the side of the rear pulley.
Remember that your trans assembly is probably not perfectly aligned with the frame. Therefore your caliper reading is probably not too useful.

thanx guys,

i did know about the adjustment window but went 2 marks not 3, i will play with the right side adjuster tomorow and go borrow the delfection tool,i just used my pinky finger , pushed on a fish scale upside down to calibrate the finger to 10 pounds and then used that ( don't laugh too hard) atleast i'm honest, how did you guys do the tension setting , the porper tool?

So, besides the adjustment, how do you rate the change in performance with the new pulley?

When you guys are installing them are you jacking the bike up?

The belt set for 2 1/2 -3 tick marks of deflection IS your Belt tension setting.

Then you just have to adjust one side or the other to make the belt track straight and not rub on the pulley. Most seem to say their belt runs towards the outside of the pulley, but not touching it.

The mesurement for the belt tension must be done with the rear wheel off the ground and taken at one point and the wheel spun 180 degrees and measured again. while checking this must use 10lbs of force at the point of measurement. that is what I Interrupted here is what it said in the manual understand this is from a V2K Manual.

•Using the jack and jack attachment under the frame pipe
ribs, lift the rear wheel off the ground (see Rear Wheel
Removal in the Wheels/Tires chapter). •Visually inspect the belt for damage (see Belt Wear and
Damage Inspection).
If the belt is damaged, replace it with a new one.
•Mark the initial belt position [C] on the belt cover window. •Using the tension gauge [A], push up 45 N (4.5 kgf, 10
lb) of force from under and on the center of the belt at the
gauge of the lower belt cover [b]. •Measure the deflection (length between mark [D] and [C])
of the belt.
NOTE
○Push the belt by the gauge until the top surface [A] of
the stopper comes to the 45 N loaded scale [b], marked
“45N”.
○Push up on the center of the belt. An inaccurate reading
will occur if the edge of the belt is pushed up.
○Look parallel to the belt during inspection. An inaccurate
reading will occur if looking from any other angle.
•Inspect the belt deflection at two positions by rotating the
rear wheel.
Special Tools - Drive Belt Tension Gauge: 57001-1585
•Inspect the drive belt deflection at arbitrary position, and
record the value [A].
•Turn

Red face think i found the noise

well pretty sure i found the noise, it seems that whe nyou intall the scootworks pulley, because it is bigger it moves the rear tire forward, and when you have previously installed a metzler 200 rear tire it is wider and taller . being taller and now more toward the front of the bike, it will rub a hole through the plastic liner infront of the wheel, the tire is dead hard against it.i don't know how i didn't see it before. when i got home from my test drive the other night, it didn't make much noise , tonight i went to move the bike to try and readjust the belt, man did it make scratchy /scapping noise really got me worried.now that i know what it is , the only question is how to fix it.i'll have to try and move the liner forward(away from the tire)
somehow!?!?!

Don't have that prob on my 900 but had something similar on another bike. Ripped the plastic guard right off while I was riding. Fixing that might take some investigation on your part to see if you can find a longer belt.

You can always sell me your pulley - that'll fix it. I got a nice shiney stock one I thrown into the deal...
