I have the Mustang (signature below) and found that it is far more comfortable than the stock but does place you just a bit closer to the tank and slightly higher in the saddle.

I have (and used) an airhawk cushion for my Vulcan 500. It's kinda funky, but it was the only way I was able to ride that bike to the Oregon coast and back from Spokane. If you think the stock seat on the 900 is bad, try the 500! BTW, I'm 5'7" 160 lbs. The Kawi gel seat on my 900 is sooooo much better!

Floating on air...yes, that's exactly what it is. I wouldn't feel comfortable using the airhawk on a daily basis. Seems like I paid about $170 for the airhawk, so $260 for a permanent gel seat seems like a real bargain to me! Now $500 and up for the Mustangs and custom seats, that's big bucks...

Also, I got just the "gel seat". I don't know if you realized, but there is a "comfort gel seat" as well. I didn't get that version due to my inseam (30") since the comfort version raises the seat height a little.

I have the Corbin with backrest. It is a good combination. I also have the airhawk. The corbin is great for an all day trip but on multiple day trips, I use the Airhawk on day two and then which back and forth. The different feel is a relief. If you inflate the Airhawk correctly, you should not feel like you are floating on air. It should only be inflated enought that if you move side to side, you can feel the air move with you but while seated, you do not feel the air. I also had a Mustang that I sold. I did not like the feel and the change of my sitting position. The main difference I see between the Mustang and Corbin is that the Corbin is a harder seat than the Mustang.

I was concerned about the comments from others that the wide Mustang pushed you up and forward, so I got the Day tripper. I am 6' and 185 and so did not need to sit any higher. I tested it this last weekend on a couple of 2 hour+ rides and it was just short of miraculous compared to the stock seat. My tailbone felt like it had died and gone south with the stock seat, but the Mustang provides support exactly where needed - problem solved. I still get some hot spots after 2.5 hours, so may consider the airhawk in the future.

I hae a barely used studded Kawa Gel seat that I used for maybe 4 weeks (<1000 miles) before I got lucky and happened upon a cheap used cobin seat. Make me an offer via message if your interested. Paid $225. Nothing under $150 considered.

I tried the Kawi gel seat. It is better than the stock seat. Then I bought a Mustang and it is much better than the Kawi gel. Now everyone's butt is different and there will be likes and dislikes of any saddle . For me ,I can ride all day on the Mustang and not even think about my butt. It's extremely comfy. No regrets spending the cash and no need to look for any other seat.

Been doing a little shopping lately for accessories for my VN800, or I should say, my wifes VN800. Anyway, I found a pretty good price on a Mustang solo seat with backrest at Westendmotorsports.com ($467.00). Looked around at other stuff and they had the best price I've found for K&N air filters too.

I probably don't have much to offer as a comparison, but my wife and I just spent a little over 12 hours on the bike with the mustang vintage touring seat. I am 5'9" and 200 lbs and my butt loves me for buying that seat. If we had been on the stocker I doubt I would be walking to well right now lol. I do like the new position of being slightly up and forward and for the first hundred miles or so I was afraid I had made a mistake spending the money. Now, 2000 miles or so later, that seat is a permanent addition to the family. If I buy another bike and it doesn't fit, a new mustang seat will be the first addition.

the only thing I dont like about my mustang seat is when I stop It seems like I have to move forwad to get a good flat stance on the pavement.I have the phat II risers and it is a different set for sure.Im getting use to it but always seem to want to adjust things.the stock seat and riser were perfect. I just wish the mustang was identical setup to the stock seat.I think being 5ft.7" is the reson I have to (sit up) on the seat at a stoplight to get a good footing were as the stock seat was so much lower.\You wouldnt think an inch or so would make a big difference but it does.

I have the Mustang on the 900, but I've bought the OEM gel front seat for the V2K. The main reason I bought the OEM gel is because Mustang didn't make a solo/front seat for the 2000. I hope the gel seat is good enough for the time being, and it should be a decent option until I find exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm 5'9" and 285# with a 30" inseam. The Mustang was a perfect solution on the 900 for me, and I didn't need a backrest. I could brag all day about the difference the Mustang seat made for me, but it might start to sound like a sales pitch. I'm selling the 900 and I've pulled the Mustang seat to sell it separately. Search the threads and you'll probably be reading about the Mustang all night long.

All of you that are complaining about the stock seat don't know how to complain. You are all understating how bloody terrible that vinyl wrapped jersey barrier of a seat really is. I have only put 1k on my machine in the month or so that I have had her. They have had to be in 30 minute intervals. By fifteen minutes, my arse is starting to get numb. By thirty minutes, I can't feel my feet. I managed to do an hour once and when we stopped, I nearly fell flat on my face, as my left leg had fallen asleep.
As soon as the boss ok's it, I am replacing that piece of concrete.

my 09' vulcan 900 is great except i felt like i was being punished everytime i went on a long ride. The seat just kicks you square in the a**. After i took my wife on a three hour run she seen it too and either of us could hardly walk afterwards. So finally flipped out the bucks on this seat kind of nervous about $370 on a seat but we will see if its worth it. Thanks for all of the feedback other members have left. This has been one of the most helpful sites for both of my vulcans.

The Kawi gel seat is a waste of coin...hardly any gel in the seat. Take a look at Saddlemen or go with the Mustang or a Corbin.
