Thumbs up Colorado Trip on 900LT

Just returned from a 4 day, 1500 mile around Colorado trip. Bike performed exceptionally well from 100 plus degrees in the desert west to the below freezing temps of mornings above tree line. Bike carried me (200 lbs) plus about 50 lbs of camping gear and personal items. This bike rocked the whole way. Pulled all passes with no problems and did everything I asked it to do. Anybody who believes that a 900 is too small for long trips is mistaken. I put exactly 1474 miles on the trip using only 24.37 gallons of regular fuel. That works out to be 60.48 mpg. Even with the speedo error, that is still very impressive. Plan on another long trip later this summer. Bike now has a little over 6,000 miles since July of last year. I will post pictures in a couple of days after I download them.

I hope you didn't ride right past Fort Collins without stopping.

Can't wait to see the pictures. Where all did you go?

Good to hear, I'd like to take a "roadie" from Kansas up into the mountains. Especially after those shots jukief put up a couple of weeks ago of that run in her back yard.

Sounds like a great trip!!! Can't wait to see those pics, and that's some impressive gas mileage for a trip like that.

Default Trip info

Three of us departed Colorado Springs going northwest to Woodland Park/Deckers/Evergreen to Black Hawk/Central city for lunch at the casino From there we went north to Estes Park out to Loveland then west through the Cache Le Poudre river canyon, through north park and spent the night in Steamboat Springs. 1st day was a little over 370 miles.

Day 2 we head south to Walcot then west on I70 to Glenwood Springs. From Glenwood, we head south to Carbondale to 133 which leads to Delta. Just before Delta, we headed north on 65 up and over the Grand Mesa then we headed into Grand Junction for the night. About 340 miles

Day 3 we started out driving through the Colorado National Monument then headed south to highway 141. 141 is an incredible ride through canyonlands and river valleys. We stopped for lunch in Gateway at the route 141 diner. It's set up like a 50/60's Diner. Good Food and people. After lunch we continued on 141 ending up in Ridgeway. From Ridgeway, we headed to Durango down the million dollor highway, highway 550 . We stay in Durango that night. About 350 miles

Day 4 we headed east on 160, crossed over Wolf Creek Pass to South Fork. We took highway 149 from South Fork to Gunnison. This was a nice road with little traffic over two passes. Lake City is a nice place to make a stop. We ate lunch in Gunnison, headed east on highway 50 to Poncha Springs then 285 to highway 24 and then back to Colorado Springs.

Good trip, only a few sprinkles the first day. Very hot during the western part of the trip. Lot's of nice people out there. We have over 300 pictures between two cameras. Will post some soon.

Meet alot of great people doing the same thing, travelling by bike. Sharing stories with others really made the trip that much more interesting. Can't wait for the next trip.

I will post the next trip for those of you who may want to tag along or visit.

Happy riding!!!

From Gunnison, go north to Crested Butte, cross Kebler pass, turn south down to Paonia, Hotchkiss, Crawford, cross the dam and left back to Gunnison. Day trip, but a gorgeous one. My daughter lives in Crawford, my brother in Poncha Springs. You mountain guys are lucky with all that scenery, but we southern flat-landers can ride 11 months a year.

Wifey and I just returned late last night from our visit to the daughter/son-in-law, and granddaughter. I didn't take the motorcycle (we flew), but I can see me visiting long periods of time on the bike in a few years.

A small point regarding speedo error. speedo error has nothing to do with calculating fuel use. the odometer which is accurate does this function. I am sure you meant odometer at any rate.
