I know its been posted before asking about Foremost Ins. but its an old Topic from 06' and nobody had any claims with them at that time. but Im picking up the 1500 on Friday and the insurance is really crazy.
Full coverage State Farm $686 a year ( I have them for my house and van and they are high for the bike ) Foremost Ins $519 same actually better coverage Progressive $550 same coverage as Foremost Ins. I had State farm for 23 years and they are killing me. All the same coverages. Confusing to me is.... Progressive said I could save $80 if I drop the "Medical Payments". If I have insurance at work they will cover me. Foremost said Medical Payments of $1000 only affect the price of insurance by $18 with them. Different companies have much different prices ith the Medical Benefits Coverage. State Farm confused me though. They said......... I need Medical Payments cause that covers the passenger on the bike. Progressive & Foremost told me Passengers are covered under the "Limits of Liability" if the get hurt in an accident. Medical covers me but if I have good Medical at work I dont need it on the policy. A guy I work with told me about a friend he knew got inot a bike accident and had insurance at work but somehow got screwed when he totaled his bike in an accident cause he didnt have "Medical Payments" on his policy. He couldnt remember exactly what happened, but he remembered he went through hell because of it. Them prices are for 25/50 limits of liability. Goin to higher limits would drive me to over $1000, way out of my league for buying the bike ! No wonder I dont see to many bikes out this year here in Chicago. Insurance has really got out of hand ! So anyway.... any input on who might be better ? Progressive or Foremost ? And any idea about the truth concerning the Medical Payments......... Thanks |

i might not be of much help but i had progressive with my first bike but now have foremost. They(Foremost) had the best price and their insurance covers up to i think 1k or so in accessories. i never filed a claim(knock wood) so its hard to judge for me.

Mine is Progressive with my 900 Classic. 280/year for full coverage, but Geico was comparable.
I have everything else covered by Allstate but they wanted 800/year. My agent basically said they don't want to cover motorcycles so they make it outrageous.

Hello,
I recently filed a claim with Progressive (2 months ago). It was not very smooth on their part. The adjuster made an estimate based on the wrong model, was a little hard to get in touch with (myself and the repair shop), and they tried to weasel out of fixing a few items. I have been paying insurance for years without a claim. I expect things to go perfect when I do need them. This time things did not go smooth. So, I canceled and went with another company. If I ever need to file a claim again, we'll see how this new company does. If they don't do great, then I will cancel and move to the next. I went through my insurance broker and got a better price/more coverage on this new company. Its AIG I believe.

No wonder you guys have money to buy chrome. M/c insurance here is $2100 a year. That is after a 43% discount bercause of my age and good driving record.

I use Geico---$580 a year or so.
I have Allstate for everything else, they wanted over $1200 a year for the MeanStreak when I first got it. I had Rider insurance (same folks as the magazine) for about 3 years, never made a claim, no accidents, no tickets, and they suddenly raised my rates $100 at the last renewal. Told them to take a hike and went to Geico. I have never made an insurance claim on any bike, so I am no help there. Never heard of Foremost. I've never had Progressive, but everyone I know who has had them had bad experiences.

Im old........
43 Years old and I pay more insurance as I get older. Tried Geico, they wanted $810 a year. Guess it will be either Foremost or Progressive. Hopefully next year when the bike is a year old I can call Statefarm and get a better rate. Ever since they passed that "Mandatory Insurance Law" in illinois, rates really doubled here for everything. |

Spok,
AMEN, to the polictial reasons for not buying Progressive Ins, I guess you don't want to offend anyone with your reasons, so I guess I will!!! The owner of Progressive is a right wing Democrate and one of many that is a theft, their charges are based on Credit ratings and have been sued several times and have payed out large sums of money for their bias policy's and still continue to do so!!!

I have an '06 V2K. Previous bike was an '04 1600 Meanstreak, that was about $60 a year less. New Jersey is famous for stupid high insurance costs though. We are one of the worst states for taxes and insurance. I got a quote on my truck from progressive a couple years ago, they wanted $1900 every 6 months!!! Allstate was about $1000. Now I have my house and 2 cars with Allstate, so my car insurance is about $1000 every 6 months for the 2 vehicles, after all the "discounts". Personally, I think insurance is the second biggest scam on the planet, right behind politics.

I use Geico too. Have a helluva lot of coverage (not that minimum crap) for 470 a year on a 1500 Nomad. I've been with them for years, have all my vehicles through them. Last year it was 70 bucks less but a couple tickets gave it a bump up.
The reason we pay so much for insurance is because we're picking up the slack for all those who run around without it.

You might check out Dairyland if they are available in your area, I've used them for bike insurance for about 15 yrs and like their rates.
