Default XM Radio for my Mean Streak

I am looking to put XM radio on my 06 Meanie. I was told that I have to have a regular radio mounted before a XM receiver would work. Never had a radio on my bike. Any advise on a type of XM receivers without mounting a regular radio? Looking for speakers for a clean mount also. Any response is appreciated.

Hey check these out. My buddy ordered these for his Nomad. They look good in black. They also come in chrome. They are marine speakers so they are water proof. I just ordered a set. They come with a 150 (peak) Watt = (40 Watts per channel).
He uses his with satalite radio but I use mine with a GPS and MP3 Player.

The price is unbelievable. With shipping to Canada, under $70.

100W Motorcycle / Scooter Handlebar Speaker PAIR w/AMP - (item 190104852569 end time Aug-17-07 07:15:17 PDT)

The picture below are mine. Installed them on Friday

They sound good for small speakers. Not allot of base. I can here them very good at 80-90 kmh. At 100-120 I can still here them ok. I used to own a wing years ago and really missed the tunes. I love not having to plug in the ear buds.

As far as the dash. I mounted a piece of 3/16 aluminum to the top front of the tree with a small bulk head at the top to mount the lexan plate. I counter sunk the screws and filled them in with body filler. Covered the top with black vinyl.

I appreciate the speakers....I like those. Will those work with a MP3 player? Thanks for sharing the speaker idea.

Back to my question, will I need a regular radio in order to add a XM receiver to my bike or is there a stand-alone receiver out there for motorcycles?

Thanks again!

okie if you have or get an xm2go reciever like I have you can use the headphone out to the amp in the setup DHACK has,all you need is a headphonne to rca adapter to plug into the amp.I bought my XM2GO radio and adapter on ebay for $65.

xm and sirius are merging... not sure about the details yet. you might want to hold off for a bit. they both have stand alone players that function kinda like a ipod. you just need to see the channel lists for both and see which one you like better.

My buddy with the Nomad has a Sirius stand alone. He also ordered a locking handle bar mount for it. So I would say make sure you can get a mount before you buy a receiver because not all of them have the mount available.

As nomad06 stated above, yes it will work with any device that has a speaker output. If you power it up with the battery on the bike you may need an in-line RCA noise filter because of the fuel pump. It's under $30.00

You don't need a radio as long as you have speakers. My XM is a stand alone and I just have to plug headphones in to listen when I bring it in the house.

I have an older XM Airware portable. I made a little bracket for it and have helmet headphones that work very well. When I wan't to listen to songs, I have a little Sony Net MD that I plug in. Makes it really nice. I do like your setup, very nice layout.

XM has a radios that are portable, such as the Samsung Helix, Pioneer Inno or Delphi MyFi XM2Go. I know the latter two you can get either for less than $100 new on ebay. But you will need either a headset, helmet speakers or powered speakers mounted to your bike. In essence what ever you you need to listen to a portable radio. Oh, the three I mentioned also have built in antenna's & FM transmitters you can easily pop it into your car or suv when not on the bike. Heck it's so portable, you can even take it with you for a walk in the park or to the office. Put it in the window at work and listen to it on your stereo. Also, XM & Sirius have merged so sometime toward the end of 2007 you will be able to get every thing from both systems on one service. O&A and Howard, Nascar etc. The best of both worlds.

I use the Ram Mount system for my XM. Plus for future use there are hundreds of other items that can be mounted to their system.
