Canada side-mount license plate brackets/frames

Hey. Seeing as how I live in Canada, I have a 5"x8" license plate. I am interested in re-locating my license plate bracket to the side. However, almost every mount or plate frame I find is for a 4x7 plate.

Anyone share to shed some insight on how to remedy this little qualm?

So canadians don't get side-mount plates, I guess?

Is there enough dead space all around the edges? You could trim 1/2" off all sides, as long as it doesn't affect anything important I wouldn't think it would matter. Just center the plate on the mount and mark with dry erase marker for guide.

But then again, you do live in Canada...

See, yeah, I was hoping that would be a last resort. I don't want to mangle anything if I don't have to.

You are asking for trouble, Side mounted plates are not legal in Canada.
The Police must be able to see the plate from both sides on the rear. (something like 150°)
I don't need the hassle.
