Has anyone tried engine guard chaps, and do they prevent buffeting. Would they be as effective as lowers.

In the colder months when I can ride I throw caution to the wind and use both. The engine guard chaps to seem to work as well as lowers but they also cause the bike to be more sensitive to cross and head winds since they're basically a big sail. I always have lowers on the bike.
