Exclamation 900 Rear fender swap

I'm thinking of swapping the rear fender on my 900 custom, with one from a 900 Classic.
Has anyone tried this? or any thoughts?

Since I got rid of the license bracket on ther rear of mine, it looks like it's sitting up in the air.
I have plans on lowering, but I don't think that will be enough.

Should probably be a direct bolt-on. You will have to do something about the lights though. I have a bobbed 800 Classic fender for my 800A, just haven't mounted it yet.

Default class

I was hoping it would fit.
I know I'd have to do some body work, and paint to make it smooth, but that's no big deal.
I don't have the turn signals or plate on the fender anymore, so we are good there.

Guess I'll have to move forward and look for a classic fender.

I don't recommend lowering if you like cornering... I don't know about you, but scraping frame sure doesn't sound fun.

The fender itself will fit I believe but the Custom seat doesn't fit the Classic fender at all well.

Seat: That is a thought. I really want a solo seat anyways. after some reading I've seen a couple statements about the solo not fitting the custom, but it fit a classic.
maybe that seat will fit the bike with a classic fender?
thanks guys, this has really helped my planning.
I guess no one has tried this swap before?

as for lowering, I really am a fan of lowered vehicles.

I have a 900 custom and coming off of having nothing but sportbikes has been a big change for me. The custom I bought came with a lower kit that can lower your bike 1,2 or 3 inches. The guy had it set a the 3 inch drop. It looks great but here is the problem. If you go over a steep curb the frame will thouch. As for turning....I tend to lean alot, I have already scrapped the lower exhaust on ground a few times. So now I am so carful around turns I am on the very slow side. I am going to get the bike back up to a 1 inch drop to gain some cornering back.

I am researching the swap of the fenders as we speak. I think it wil look magnificent. I am also thinking of putting some sort of springer seat on, with a nice shiny underplate. Drawings in progress.

I was close to buying a Classic take off rear fender here on the forum (for my Custom) but it didn't have the turn signals and license plate mounts so I chose to hold off. I figured that might be hard to find. I still want to put a Classic rear fender on and change the frt fender. One day...

How about doing something like this...

A hugger type rear fender, custom solo seat with an integrated clip-on luggage rack
