    Default Resistor Mod...

Ok, I've been running premium through my 1600 since I first got it. I recently tried regular gas (87 octane) and noticed my gas mileage when up a couple of miles per gallon, but get some pinging only under heavy acceleration. So, I'm thinking of doing the reisitor mod. I have a stock setup in terms of engine/exhaust and don't want to get a fuel management system just for this. The question is how many people that have done the resistor mod have made it a permanent install? Gadget's site says that this should be a temporary fix only. What do you think, just do the mod and leave it, or do the throttle position sensor mod right off the bat?

I don't know what is entailed in the resistor mod on a 1600 but for the 2000 it advances the timing in the first 3 gears and that would make pinging MORE prevalent, not less. I would try a MIDgrade fuel and maybe get the best of both worlds. That is what I run in my V2K most of the time.

On the 1600, the resistor mod fools the ECU into thinking the temperature is a little cooler than it really is and adds a little more gas, making it run a little richer. Since the bikes come stock running lean, this sometimes clears up pining. I'm interested in finding out how many people have done this and are using it as a permanent solution...

Sounds like a perfect way to do it if you aren't planning on a fuel manager, etc.

I just did the resistor on my 06 meanie a couple of months ago (no aftermarket air or pipes) and don't plan on taking it out any time soon. I haven't noticed a drop in MPG (it actually went up about a mile/gallon) and it's not running as hot (fan doesn't kick in as much). I never had any real pinging, but I did it just to get the engine to run more "like it was supposed to" (i.e. without all the emissions cr@p). At this time, I don't think I'll take it out, since I'm not really planning on aftermarket pipes or air (Denver noise nazi laws ) As far as I can tell, there shouldn't be any long term negative effect if it doesn't make the engine run too rich. Heck, it just may save a little wear and tear by lowering the running temp...
