Question Backfire on VN900 Classic

Hey All
Has anyone had any backfire issues with the Vulcan 900 Classic.
I rode mine from L.I.,N.Y. to Pennsylvania were I am keeping it now. It was during the ride I started getting the backfire ( not sure if before or after getting gas in N.J.) Brought it to Kawasaki in Middletown N.Y. and Service Manager took it for ride. Came back and asked if i noticed anything different...
Idle was about 3 X's to high and he adjusted it. Also said that with the 10% ethanol in gas now, it does corroid the aluminum of the engine and that gas additive is needed every 20 gallons of gas (1 ounce) to stop the backfire. They give a bottle with every bike they sell. He also stated that a little backfire is normal on these??? i don't know enough about bikes to know if this is true or not. I did switch from 87 to 91 octane after this all started. Any Suggestions appreciated.
THANKS

I have a 900 custom and have noticed the occasional backfire (when slowing down) depending on where I buy gas. I found that when I get gas at the local Wawa, the bike backfires. When I buy Exxon, it purrs like a kitten. I also switch from 89 to 87 Octane which helped out as well.

If it is really annoying, you might want to try and marble the bike. There are a lot of threads on this in the forum.

I had a real problem with backfiring until I switched to 91% octane. Of course now I have to use seafoam to keep it cleaned out but I'm happy with the way it runs now.
