I wear perscription glasses (40 + years now) and they are bifocals. They are also my "riding glasses" as well. I do have some clip on sunglasses and recently bought a pair of the "wear over" sunglasses to use when I'm out riding. The "wear over" ones are huge and resemble goggles but they do an excellent job for riding. I have never worn sunglasses a lot and only wear them when driving or riding my bike but if I were going to purchase perscription sunglasses and were used to wearing them a lot, I'd go ahead and get the bifocals...unless it was really cost prohibitive..

I'm 60 and wear bifocals. I was concerned also as to what to wear. For now I wear my bifocals and don't really have and issue with them. I have clip on sun glasses which are ok somewhat. My next step will be to buy the HJC FS-10 helmut that has a sunshade that can be lowered. I've tried them on and they aren't bad at all. The other option I'm considering is transitional glasses like I had before. Either should be fine. I like the idea of the helmut the best though.

I wear prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses - however they are polarized and add some rainbow effect to my helmets clear lense. Luckily I have an Icon Mainframe helmet which allows me to change the face shield out in about 30 seconds to a tinted shield. I keep the clear one in my saddlebag and change out the shield as required and just wear my regular glasses all the time.

I also had the same problem when choosing riding glasses.I went with Wyley-X frames and had lined bifocal transitions made. I did not want to have to change glasses all the time, and they work well for me.( My wife is an optician and she had them made up for me.) Wyley-X is made for motorcycle riders and have a foam insert that can be used to keep the wind out, they also have straps that help to hold the glasses in place. My brother in law had a pair of polarized transition glasses made in a no line bifocal and he really likes them. Because of the wrap lenses you can get some more distortion on the sides but he was used to wearing them already. Polarized transitions are great but they do have their drawbacks--they only come in single vision or progressive lenses, and they are green in color inside. I like to have the bifocal as I can see everything that I want to. I can read and see distance. My wife is great-she set me up with an excellent pair of glasses, many kudos to her. Hope this helps.

Mine are the transitionals and I'm like you...don't know why you wouldn't want them on riding glasses. I do have a pair of regular glasses that I use to play golf but that is a lot different than riding a bike.

I have transitional lineless bi-focals. Great glasses. I wear them at night when I take my contacts out & occasionally during the day but very seldom. I also wear contacts cuz when working with pitchers, you can't catch a 65mph fast ball with bifocals! Tried it one time, learned real quick......painfully!!

I love the contacts over the glasses any day! My optomitrist has recently fitted me for bifocal contacts. I put them in & the right one needed to be changed but the left one was unbelievable!!! Waiting for the corrected right to come in now & can hardly wait. With the left one alone I could read very small print!

The great thing about contacts is they also fix the perrifial vision that glasses miss so you have complete vision & not just what's in front of the glasses! And you can catch a fastball....no prob! The drawback about contacts is you must wear close fitting sunglasses when riding cuz the wind will dry your eyes out pronto then blow the contacts right out of your eyes. Good sunglasses, no prob!

I'll let ya know how the bifocal contacts do as soon as I get the right one!

Been riding with bifocals for years now. I did get the auto tinting types this time around, but standard bifocals with the "line" in them. I have no problem with them. They are shatterproof. There is no way I could carry 2 pair of glasses and change them all the time so I could write a citation, then switch back to my other glasses before riding off.

I had my Doctor make bi focal riding goggle type glasses for me, and sun glasses. I got the shatter proof lenses. It does take a little time to get used to the rap around lense.
I wanted the bi focals so I can read the gages.
I wanted clear ones for night, and shades for the sun. My clear ones tint to shades, but you can't get the polarized lense in the progressive, so I got both.
I'm happy with them both, but the clear night goggles do fog when it's cold out.

I wear progressive lens glasses. Need them to read the speedo. I used magnetic sunglasses with them, but I lost 2 pairs when they blew off. I now use fit overs.
Bought a pair of Cocoons. They work great for me. When it gets dark I just take them off and use my regular glasses.

They do not bounce. They fit nice and snug to my face. I thought they would be warm and sweaty in the hot weather but that was not the case. There is just enough ventilation so they don't fog. This is MY experience with them. Others might have a different opinion. I bought them at Fishusa.com.

I have progressives that I usually wear everyday. When I am biking or hiking, I wear transitions single vision glasses. They get real dark like sunglasses. With my progressives, I get a distorted perspective when I look down, not good for mountain biking or hiking but ok for motorbiking.

I wear cocoons over my glasses also and have had no wind issues with them. The only thing is they do make my nose a little sore at the bridge because of the extra weight.

I wear the no-line bifocals and also have a pair of prescription sun glasses with the no-line bifocal. I wear a modular full face that has a sun shield built in so I can quickly just flip down the sun shield when needed. I almost never wear my sun glasses when riding due to the color tinting and distortion issues I get. The sun glasses are polarized.

I only have one set of glasses. And those have bifocals. I do not have any problems. I can change out my visor on my scorpion helmet with a darker shield.
