Those sticky weights are available at most hobby shops. We use them to balance our airplanes. You don't have to wait for the mail to come in, just find a hobby shop and go buy them there.

I saw that and thought the same thing you did. It sure would be nice to have that level of equipment to get the job done. They are proud of their product but it does look like it would last a very long time.

I bought mine when I got the balancer so I didn't mind waiting since I had to wait for all the gear to get here.

dont forget to mount the dot of the tire close to the valve stem... My tires barely required any weight after i did that

Cary, are you going to bolt that changer to the floor or into some concrete?

If you don't have any concrete ... send that changer to me, I would be happy to mount it in some fresh mud

Once the VW is fixed and it can be parked outside in the weather I will drill holes in the concrete floor so I can mount it when needed and remove it when it's not needed. I thought about bolting it to plywood but would rather it be fixed to the floor so I don't have to add/remove the plywood as needed.

We have a local Harbor Freight store and I caught that changer on sale for $29.99. I just wanted to try and change my race tires for my Mustang which it will do but not the most fun I've ever had. It takes some imagination, vise grips, and cardboard isolators but it can be done. I'm talking 315/35/17 Kumho V710 race tires with super stiff sidewalls.

I drilled the floor with a 5/8" masonry bit to insert 3/8"x3" lag anchors. The way it's made the anchors want to pull out of the floor if you tighten the bolts without some sort of spacers. I stacked some large nuts between the floor anchors and the bottom of the base channel on the changer. You will need 4 - 3/8" x 3 1/2" lag bolts if you go this route. The lead anchors may not last more than a couple of mountings. I've had to replace a couple of mine and only used it 3 times but I put some serious stress on it.

If the space was available ... I would put it straight into the concrete with some really big bolts

When balancing the tires use some masking tape to temporarily hold the weights on and rechek if everythings kosher then peel the backing and sticker down saves on weights and goo gone to get the sticky mess off your wheels also with custom wheels i'll break one side of the bead down and put the weight inside the tire on the rim but also use duct tape and make sure no matter where you put the weight on the wheel is very very clean , nothing like havin a weight come off when your clippin 80 mph on the freeway

Thanks for the heads up on the anchors. I need to pick some up and will get extras for the time I get to it.

That machine can dance...I can't!

It'd be better if it were hard mounted IMHO. I don't have enough area to do that and leave it permanently so have to remove it when it's not needed.

That's another good tip. I have some tape handy just for that and will be sure to use it as you suggested. Thanks!

We are making progress at getting out of this one. Should be totally moved out on Sunday. The heavy equipment will be here on the 4th of January so it has all got to be gone.

My son is bringing out a chainsaw to cut the deck down into firewood, and that breaks my heart, but there is no way to save it.

Wired phone service into the RV and left the cable on the ground overnight ... the cottontails here in the yard chewed the cable in half overnight ... gonna call Elmer Fudd in to deal with Bugs Bunny real soon.

It does sound like progress. That's good to hear. How's Lynn dealing with it all?

As for the deck...that breaks my heart to hear it. You know there's alot of good wood to use there and cutting it up is such a waste. Did you use screws or nails when you built it?

The VW is still sitting in the cozy spot in the garage waiting for the seal kit to arrive. I think they had to dig down into the bowels of the earth to find the materials to make the kit. I'm sure someone could spare some rubber here or there but hey...we just buy the stuff.

She is doing good with all this ... she wants the new house. Going to be the death of me though. Its easy to move all the filing cabinets, gun safe, along with everything else that seems to weigh a ton. Have two of my sons coming up this weekend to help with the last of the heavy stuff.

The biggest problem so far has been switching over to this laptop ... drives me nuts

Its probably a good thing the quad is still parked outside if those seals aren't in yet. Don't need your bride swimming in the Beetle

Is it going to be a headache to replace them?

Ken...if you have a keyboard and mouse that you can plug into the laptop that can make it more like using your desktop. Just a thought...

I have a cover over the quad so it'll be fine..."IN THE COLD". LOL

I haven't looked at the seals under the hood yet so don't know how hard it will be to replace them. I'll get Shirley going on it and just ease out of there to let her use her expertise if it gets too tuff. LOL
