Talking What is the deal with these guys....

What is the deal with these guys (always a guy, props to the gals out there) who get themselves a "sportster" and then ride around with this attitude like they are a 1%'er or something?
Don't get me wrong, I have respect for any rider out there on any bike, But we have all seen this guy.
I have a guy like this in my town. One day I pulled up beside him at the light, and turned and nodded a smile to him.
The look of disgust on this guy's face was incredible, like I had the audacity(sp?) to even be in his precense.
Funny how some people are.
When I first bought my Meanie, I figured I would get a couple of years from it then "graduate" up to H.D. Since then I have really re-evaluated that thought.
I love my Kawy, I love the Kawy community (just have to look at this forum), and I would put my baby up against any H.D. out there for value, performance, and reliability. (she eats sportsters for breaky)
I can't see why I would ever want to get away from the Mean Green Machine.
No more ranting.
Peace to all.

I think those types feel that they have to justify their "holier than thou" attitude in order to justify the ridiculous price that they paid for their status symbol.

I hear you. Those people used to **** me off. I can go on all day about what I used to do when I came across people with attitudes like that. I am a a little wiser now and I have found it much easier to "Kill them with kindness" I should point out I have owned HDs and metrics. I have also taken anger management classes. LOL

my father in law rides a Fatboy and still thinks it is better than my Nomad
just for reference, we went on a ride last summer. when we left a toll booth he was in front of me really getting on the throttle. well....i shifted half throttle and had to hold back from blowing by him. oh, did i mention that i had my trailer in tow ?
ok, that is all i am going to say about that....

That's not to say all Harley riders have that attitude. Since I posted the other reply I took a 55 mile ride passing a number of Harley riders and they all waved, some initially .

Some people are idiots and some of them buy HD's and some of them buy the largest SUV on the planet to buy groceries. None of them understand what they have or why they bought it, but who can argue with the majority. Somebody somewhere has to wake up and make an independant choice, some on them will still buy HD's and SUV's but most of them already own Kawa's..

no, i can't argue with you there. as with all groups, there are the good and the bad. just seems like i run into the "bad" more than the "good" when it comes to HD riders. i just don't get status symbols. i suppose by their thinking, when i pull up to an HD rider in his little truck (since he can't afford a big truck and a Harley) in my truck, i should look down on him because of the status i have with my truck. am i on the right path now, i still don't get it ? man, i am ranting again, i need to stop. pretty soon i will start repeating myself like others on here, like others on here, like others on here.......

I know the guy you speak of......There is a guy that I work with who was going to buy a 800 Vulcan or a Volusia, then he went out one day and bought a slightly used 883 Sportster from the local Harley dealer. Hey, he's happy....I'm happy. We rode together a couple of times and I found that he tries to put down on my Vulcan. He said that he prefers to ride a "Man's Bike". Well, this didn't set too well with me. The first long straight road we came to, I did everything but suck the Sportster stickers off the side of his tank. He couldn't believe how fast my Kawa was and I lost alot of respect for 883 Sportsters. Nuff said.

Isn't it fun when you do that <BSEG> Last OCT. I stopped by the HD dealer an test rode three new harley's an with the exception of the v-rod the other two were dogs in there stock form the 800 was definitely quicker. But like they say you don't buy a HD because you want to be quick. No argument there.

Years ago I owned a 1000 sportster and guys I rode with called it a girls bike. I rode it to work all the time and one day it was nice in the morning and rained in the afternoon. I asked them why they didn't ride to work and they said "why do you think?there is a chance of rain." All I can say is looks and attitude won't get you anywhere. Unless they are both good. Like mine.

I think that many times it is because they think that by spending too much puts them into a different class. I rather be part of a real community than be a pretender. In MHOAW.

My very small opinion is that they'd like to kick themselves for spending way too much, and then they get their butts kicked by other riders waaayy to often. We have a friend who spent $19,000 on a fatboy, and it wasn't assembled on a HD line so he cannot even be a part of their HOG groups! Sad, so very sad. All that for no prestige.
Also, I think the HD owners who look down their noses are like the backstabber..... They make themselves feel good by cutting someone else down. On the other hand, we know many HD owners who are great people. It takes all kinds.

I had an 883 Sportster and I loved it. The 1%ers still looked down on it as not a "real HD". I didn't give a rodents rectum then and I don't now either. The only thing I have in common with those guys is two wheels, and respect has to be founded much deeper than that.

There are idiots in every village. The important thing is THAT you ride, not WHAT you ride. Whatever enjoyment you get from riding is what counts, not what someone else thinks about your bike. Peer pressure is intense, but if your peers cannot accept you based on what you ride, then they are not your peers. If someone tries to make you feel smaller because of what they ride, they are not worth getting upset about. Some Harley rider acquaintances I know in town would never put anyone down because of their bike. They understand that the important thing is the RIDE.
Ride safely.
