Anyone with experience installing one of these on a 900? And if so....was it difficult or straight forward? I have one on order for my 900 custom and it should be here before next weekend. Any insight or tips are welcome.

Just installed mine today. It takes at least two people – I had three people working on it (me plus 2 friends). It was very easy. Just read the instructions all the way through first to make sure you have all the right tools. The instructions were great and easy to follow. The only thing the instructions didn't tell me is that after you remove the two bolts from the stock bracket you're replacing, you need to remove the frame cross brace directly under it in order for the bracket to drop out. The cross brace is easy to remove – two bolts and it's out.
VERY IMPORTANT!!
You have to remove your exhaust pipes in order to install the lowering kit. The instructions tell you to reuse the exhaust gaskets. DON'T DO THAT. Any time you remove your pipes you need to replace your gaskets. Pick up a couple at your local shop before you start your project.
If you choose to lower your bike the full three inches, trust me – it's low. If you get two people on it and hit a big bump, the back fender and belt gaurd could rub. And when you turn right hard enough – it is a possibility that your pipes will drag. The good news is – if you lower it the full three inches and decide you want to back off to two inches, you don't have to take everything back apart. Just get the bike back on the stand and remove the bottom bolt of the bracket and move it to the two inch hole. That bolt drops just below the frame below your bike and you can access it from both sides of the bike without removing your pipes or any panels.
When I dropped it to three inches, I first thought "no way, that's way too low". I didn't like the idea of possibly scraping my new Vance and Hines pipes – but I rolled it out onto the street and looked at it. IT LOOKS AWESOME. I'll take my chances. It totally changes the look of the bike.
ALSO, ANOTHER NOTE:
When we lowered the bike down off of the stand, the bike was too low to pull the jack out. My friends had to lift up on the front forks while I steadied the bike and kicked the jack out.
So, good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
^ Do you have pics of it, by chance?
A mod that major and no pics!!!!! Whats goin on here, hasn't anyone explained to you this forum runs on pics!!!!LOL
Its a great looking mod, Main thing is to have a way to steady the bike from the front while lifting the back, and then having another jack while its in the air to lift on the back tire.
Trust me, Put it on 2" When I first did mine it was set to 3" Practically any right turn your scraping pipes. You never scrap on 2, and IMO it looks plenty bad a$$. When its done, you wont believe how much better your bike looks.
Good luck.

I got mine set at 2" as well looks great and doesn't scape. My best mod so far.
i did mine in about an hour didn't remove the exhaust but i did have to take off the coolant bottle and it will take at least 2 people and i did have to put in 2 bolts the opposite way i took them out for some reason they wouldnt go back in the same cuz of the 3 inch drop was pretty straight forward just put everything back the you took it out and you should be fine...good luck....we used a 2x6 board to get it off the stand
Here are pics of the my lowering job at 3". I took the bike out today and scraped the pipes a half dozen times. I'm going to bring it up to 2" – BUT –*dang it looks good at 3".
here is mine at 3

What sort of difference in handling have people experienced that installed the Scootworks kit?
Formerly 2003 Vulcan 800 Classic. Then 1996 GPZ 1100. Now 2007 Vulcan 900 Custom.
i havnt seen a difference in handling..but i have noticed i watch more turning to the right try to keep from scraping the pipes but im getting to the point to were i just dont care about the pipes when they get the point of replacing then ill buy what i want some street sweepers
Hey guys...thanks for all of the responses. I just got back into town. So it looks like this should be a pretty straight forward mod. My dad has a motorcycle jack...so I will get him to give me a hand. Hopefully the kit will be here by the end of the week. I've also got smoked turn signal lenses and the tail light lens on order along with an LED license plate frame. I will post some before and after pics when I am done. Thanks again for the insight!
