Default Windshield Suggestions for a Vulcan 1500

Hello everyone, I'm a newbie, But I'm so glad I found this forum!

Just bought my husband a 1999 Vulcan 1500. The bike is gorgeous, but the windshield is in poor shape. It's in tact, but very foggy.

I want to buy a new one ASAP, but am overwhelmed by the choices. Any suggestions as to where to find one for the best price? (I don't need the mounting hardware, just the acrylic I guess.)

    Thanks in advance,
    - Leslie

PS: The current windshield measures 27" across and 20" from the headlamp cutout to the top. I've seen some that are called "tombstone" and I'm pretty sure that isn't what is currently installed.

    Hello Leslie and welcome aboard!

Before you drop some money on a new windshield (you can always do that) you might want to try a product called TR3 Glaze/Resin. It can be found at Schucks Auto parts stores and other auto parts stores. I have used that product on a completely glazed/foggy windshiled and brought it back to like new condition. It's easy to use and works very well. This is just a suggestion that would cost you about $8.00 as compared to a new shield for alot more money. It's your call.

Welcome Leslie.. I too would try the TR3. Good windshields are pricy and the mounting hardware may not match. One site with a pretty good selection is Motorcycle Parts and Motorcycle Accessories for Cruisers: Honda VTX, Yamaha Roadstar, Kawasaki Mean Streak, Suzuki Volusia and more ... .

Another thing Leslie..this Kawasaki site has an unbelivable amount of info and wonderful people that are on here!!!!! Another awesome site for info is this one: Gadget's Fixit Page For Kawasaki Nomad & Classic Modification Maintenance & Repair

    Good luck!!!

Hi Leslie and welcome! Don't know what brand windsheild you have, but i have a Memphis Shades Fats thats like new condition if ya are interested. It's 19 inches above headlight/23 or 24 inches wide (can't remember),is clear with a red tint at the bottom around the headlight. If you already have the right hardware,i'll take $45.00 for it! And again,i promise ya,its in like new condition!! The only reason i'm not using it is because i had my bike painted orange and that red tinted bottom don't match my new color!!!

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I am going to try and get the TR3 tomorrow and see how that goes, otherwise I'll go to plan "b".

Kenny, thanks so much for the offer, but my DH isn't keen on tinting. =(

Welcome Leslie. I just replaced my windshield for the same reason as yours. was aged and looking pretty hazy. I purchased some lexan and cut/finished my own. Not sure how handy you might be or if you have someone with the tools, but it's an inexpensive way to do it. I spent $150 for a sheet of lexan that was .180 thick. Don't go any thicker or it might not work with various bolts. Even a little thinner would be ok.

I used the old plastic to draw out the pattern, then used a friend's band saw to cut it. After that, I used a small electric sander with 80 grit, 120 grit, 240 grit, and finished off with 800 grit to make it smooth.

I spent a little more for two reasons. I got a bigger piece of lexan so that I could also make lowers, and I got some with a scratch-resistant coating. that alone was close to double the price. you can find it online for as little as 40 to 50 bucks and on up.

THANK YOU! This looks almost perfect.

This is the only picture I have of the bike right now (I took it today as I was leaving the dealership) and you can see how bad the windshield is.

I REALLY hope the TR3 works, but if it doesn't, I'll be paying a visit to Rifle. LOL

Thanks Everyone for such a warm welcome!

Looked high and low for the TR3 but to no avail. It almost looks like someone used softscrub to try and clean the windhshield as there are so many scratches and swirl marks.

So, I gave up and ordered the windshield from Rifle last night. It looks to be the most like what is already installed. I just hope DH likes it when it gets here. He's a sticklar for having "original" parts, and I hope this is close (or better).

Sorry you couldn't find the TR3. It's some great stuff for restoring shields and paint.

I'd think your hubby would be grateful that you bought him a new shield, yes?

    Ahhhh...he likes shopping too!

I'll bet he's going to be ecstatic when he see's what you bought for him. Maybe he should be taking you to dinner since he's spent that money on himself for a shield!?
