There has been MUCH discussed on the VN900 recall, and since I just had my bike checked out, I thought I would share. I visited the dealer yesterday and he shared with me the Kawa recall info he had received. Inspection is a smple and quick visual check of a couple of fuel line joint locks. One of these can be seen from the left side of the tank as the fuel line attached to the tank's down-pipe. The second can be seen from the same side when you look under the tank to where the fuel line enters the throttle body. On the recall documentation the dealer received, it shows what to look for. Apparently, either some of these joint locks (red or orange in color) were defective, or (more likely), one was buggered up by a PO (previous owner) and caused a fire or other issues, so Kawa had no choice but to enter a recall. The joint lock slides backwards to disengage the lock from the fitting. On the example of what to look for on a recall, the picture showed a joint lock that looked like someone had pried the ends open with a small screwdriver in an attempt to
remove it! This of course would defeat the locking mechanism and cause issues. So, while you can inspect this yourself, please carry your bike back to your dealer so they can enter it into the system as being properly inspected (obligatory disclaimer!). If you are holding off on riding your bike due to this recall...then you can do a self-inspection and check it out for peace of mind! Below is a picture of a joint lock and a bit of an explanation of what to look for...
