I can't seem to find the thread at the moment, but it's relatively easy to lower the stock front fender on the Meanie to make it sit closer to the wheel. I did it on mine and it's barely noticeable to the "casual observer", but I like it a lot more
Basically you remove the front fender (4 bolts), pull of the reflectors (won't be re-using them), and pop the rivets holding the bracket/support to the fender. Cut the bracket with your trusty Dremmel or Sawzall and keep the flat parts that the bolts screw into (shaped roughly like an upside-down "T"). Bolt the "T" shaped brackets back onto the forks and set the fender in your favorite position and mark the holes where the rivets were on the brackets. Take everything back off, drill out the holes you marked and use whatever combination of screw/bolt/duct tape to re-attach the brackets to the fender. Re-install the fender and enjoy your "custom" front fender. I actually had to go back and raise mine back up 1/4" since it was rubbing, but it still looks waaay better than stock, IMHO. Here's a pic...subtle, but I like it ![]() ![]()

So where's your pic Frank? I know you sure have a sweet ride with a custom fender.

It's a very cool looking fender Tom, no question. But with a black bike, it kinda gets lost. Now with YOUR bike, it would really pop out at you!

I want to try taking this mod a step further, not only lower the fender but also rotate it back a little. But, here's a pic of a meanie without a front fender just in case someone was wondering what that may looked like.

Nice looking bike. Were you planning on keeping it fenderless for a while? Just a word of warning, my radiator took a rock hit and cracked... and that was with a fender. It may be a little more susceptible without one.
There was someone else that ran without a fender for a while, I'm not sure how he made out (or even who it was now... maybe sleekstreak?) Good luck with the mod, let us know how it works out. I would think it would be a little more difficult to move it around with the placement of the holes/brackets. But anything is possible with enough time and know-how. I have finally gotten the Low and Mean reaper front. It's just waiting on paint now. I hope to have it done in the next few weeks. Here is a better profile shot of mine I took yesterday after getting the new headlight. I don't think I got my fender as low as animosity did. His looked better, IMO. ![]()

I just have the stock cover. The rock just happen to hit dead center on the top right side screw head. The screw hole kind of shattered. It spidered out in all directions from it.
Local kawi dealer didn't want to cover it, blamed it on the stebel horn installation cause we used that screw for the ground wire. They tried to say that the screw was overtightened into the radiator, which pretty much can't happen. If nothing else, the screw was shorter because of the ground connection. Not to mention I'd had that horn on there for nearly a year before the leak started. I'd say you'd be alright. It probably has to be a pretty direct hit like I took to do any damage, and you've got the extra protection on yours with that cover.

Just finished modding front fender: lowered and rotated back a little. It's quite late now so I am going to paint the screws, brackets and buff out any scratches another day. Here's a pic of the front fender transformation. Enjoys!
