Can it be. Put Vance and Hines Power Shots on my V2k not to long ago. They sound great. I get the occasional pop on decel, but I got that with the stock pipes as well, just not as loud of course.
The popping is not the issue. I sometimes gets old cruising down the highway. Today everyone was out, all types of bikes. I seen some Metrics with Stock pipes, sounded good. Heck even the stock HD pipes didn't sound bad. I have the stock pipes and for $12 worth of gaskets they can go back on. Not sure if I will, but has anyone ever put on after market pipes and then said, this may not be for me. I am going to give it some time and see if they grow on me. Around town there awesome, but going down the highway just kinda bugs me. Maybe I need therapy or something. |

When I picked up my V2k the dealer had already installed the Hard Chrome's so after the first season I was curious to see how the bike would sound with the stock pipes on. I swapped the pipes and rode for about 2 weeks with the stockers on before going back to the aftermarket ones. Aftermarket pipes help drown out those annoying engine sounds

mbigica: I'm one of those who has gone back to the stock pipes. I have an ear ringing condition called 'tinitus' that mandated it. Had the Powershots from V&H with no quality issues and loved them around town on short rides. But down the highway for 3-5 hours on a day cruise and the screaming in my head said to go back to stock. Do have to say that my air kit has made the stock exhaust more throaty however. And just for added measure, I couldn't resist taking out the first two discs in the muffler body. And the sound is just right for me now.

Anyway....got $400 plus worth of Roadburner StreetPros hanging in my shop with only about 5000 miles on them..........What a waste........You always hear so much about getting aftermarket pipes and you really don't know if you want them till you get em and use them for a while. I now actually think the stockers sound pretty darn good.......Now I know I'm not the only one

Nah, you don't need therapy. I thought the same thing. They will grow on you. And then you will not want to give them up and have an eternal grin.

The stock mufflers produced a nice enough rumble at times, but was elusive.
The Muzzy's gave it more personality, without being too harsh. I ran about 150 miles today, and think I'll leave the stockers hanging in the shed! Cobras on the 900 were the only pipes that ever made me want to take them right back off!

I have hearing damage and a tendency to easily get tinnitus with certain noise/sounds. Actually they are ringing right now. I had my V&H 2 weeks and sold them. Just couldn't deal with it.

you need to get yourself some earplugs. Either the cheap foam ones, or some custom plugs designed for your ears (they inject some rubber in and get a mould.
Even with stock pipes the engine noise and wind buffeting under your helmet can damage your hearing when riding . They'll block out the bassy thudding in your ears and quite a large amount of engine noise, yet you'll still enable you to hear car horns etc. I don't like wearing them at the moment as i've still got the stock exhaust and can't hear the engine properly to listen to when to change gear as the bike's too quiet! I have worn plugs on long journeys though and it definitely reduces fatigue when you arrive; your head's clear and it's alot easier to concentrate while riding. When i get my Cobras i'll consider investing in some custom earplugs. |

I had my V&H Slash Cut Staggered on the bike for less than 12 hours! They looked great, but I just couldn't handle the tone with my FF helmet on. I tried riding it a short distance with a half helmet and earplugs but realized that I was really thinking about it and how uncomfortable it would be to ride any distance like that...
So, I have an (almost) brand new set of pipes in the garage and a good lesson learned. Guess I'm getting old... |

My dad has a harley ultra classic, he put loud pipes and crap on it before he even took it home from the dealer. Later went and got quieter pipes because he couldn't stand riding with all the noise. The v2k is plenty loud stock, as much as I ride i wouldn't want to go deaf from listening to it.

Had DG Hardchrome 3" big straights for a season on my V2K went back to my stockers the DG's were so loud I was made to ride at the back of the pack LOL. and no one would ride on my right side. After about 3000 miles the stock pipes burn out enough to improve the rumble, still not loud enough for my liking but I have still not heard any after market pipes for this bike that I do not find offensive. Plus I leave for work at 6 in the morning and don't need my neighbours down my throat.
