Default Low Profile GPS Wiring

My used KLR650 had a 12v power adapter already installed when I got it. Therefore, I bought a RAM mount for my Garmin GPS60C that will probably be living there most of the time.

I'd like to be able to use the GPS on the Mean Streak as well... but probably will only do so twice a year on our longer vacation rides.

How do you recommend I go about wiring given the infrequency of use? Another 12v adapter is fine, if it can be in a not-too-prominent location.

Thanks.

There's a post on page 2, "where to mount a lighter socket on a 900". You may get some idea's there. Go Tribe!

Smile too easy

A couple of in-line connectors, straight from the horn circuit, at or near the horns.
That way It is ‘ignition controlled, and, if any electrical mishap, wont be able to affect
the lights or ignition system of either bike.

As recently posted

Buy another accessory adaptor (same type/model/manufacture) and using this idea, can be as easy as 'plug n play' to
each bike too.

And a quick sketch to help

Not sure about something for only occassional use. On my bike I have the usual RAM mount for my Garmin GPS V. I then bought a power cable that I ran down under the fuel tank and hardwired to an aux. power lead under the seat. It does have an in-line fuse to protect the GPS and wiring. When not using the GPS, I just tuck the power plug up thru a hole in the RAM mount so that it doesn't flop around. I know some GPS mounts have the power plug attached right to the GPS mount so when you put the GPS in the mount it's hooked up to the power supply. Is your GPS mount like that?

On my mount if I needed I could take just the upper portion of the RAM mount and use on a different bike (if only I had another bike!) but then I'd still need a power supply installed on that bike to power it. I guess another option is a simple cig lighter type outlet installed somewhere on the bike to plug into.

Not sure if that would work for you but that's what I do. I guess it all somewhat depends on the type of mount/power supply setup your specific GPS uses. Good luck!

Erm yea, not sure about that, but, as a sparky, trust me it works!

I can switch my Garmin Zumo between my ER6, R100, R1100s, or 1150g/s
Also (just got) a Fireblade, that will be included too!
REASON. . .
Not been in Aus' to long, so don't know my way around too well; that and
the GPS cost about A$1600 new last year -

Had to visit a breakers to get the clutch/brake, half section mount 'bits' for each (all the same size) bike, so for four bikes took some time.

The half sections cost a dollar each, got an odd look for wanting four!?!
Said why and the guy's eyes opened real wide.

Then made up some ball end's for the GPS receiver, fittings to suit, the rest was too easy (with some help form a machine shop mate) . . .
