Default These Kids, Nowadays...

...young whippersnappers!

I am driving home in my truck, coming up to a left hand, hard curve (posted limit 30 mph). I know this road like the back of my hand. No problem. I am not speeding. Just entering the curve, I can see another vehicle coming from the other direction, me turning left, him turning right. No problem. Suddenly, a motorcycle darts out to pass him. Problem. The kid pulls back into his lane and (I suppose) passed the truck after the curve.

Louisiana congress just passed a no-helmet law which the governor has not signed, so we still require helmets. This kid (maybe 20 at the most) is wearing blue jeans, tennis shoes, no shirt, no helmet, and trying to pass on the left in a right-hand curve.

Yeah, before you ask, it was a sportbike.

Idiots!

Most people couldn't tell you a sportbike from a dirtbike, so they just lump all of us into the "motorcycle" heading. Guys like him give the rest of us a bad rap.

Like someone was going to ask if it was a sport bike rider...lol. Every type of bike riders have their moments, some more than others. Been there, done that.

It really is a dangerous move and we hate to hear to have this end up in a tragedy. Always be a defensive driver. Drive and Ride safe.

Not a good incident but thanks for sharing. Maybe if everyone were to read the public review of dumb moves like that, the number of dumb moves would decrease. Here's hoping.

Actually, I'm willing to bet someone would have. Seen this topic raised many times and if it's not mentioned the type of bike, most will assume it's a sportbike or will ask.

As for every type of biker, yes, I agree, but I'm also willing to bet 90% of all bikers who do this type of idiocy is a sportbike.

It's not going to be IF he goes down....But WHEN he goes down.
Hope the outcome won't be fatal...but maybe a lesson learned.

Just like guns, it is the DRIVER, not the motorcycle that makes the dumb mistake. Please leave the sportsbike out of the comment. This is the second thread that has bashed "Sportsbike" riders. I have seen every kinda of bike rider do mean, crazy, stupid, insane, rude things.

I have a 10R and I have never had it on one wheel or have I endangered other people with my riding. I just want you guys to realize that there are those of us "Sportbike" that choose to ride safely. The bike doesn't make the rider... The rider makes the bike.

I'd have to agree with ya Chad, it most definately is the rider.. but I have seen enough videos on utube where sportbikes were blowing off no passing zones, riding wheelies through traffic, and other things, that I think a generalization of the type of driver that chooses them is valid.. there will always be those like you who are responsible.. but i think your one of the minority. I hope i'm wrong

Chad is right about it being the rider not the bikes fault.
However the sport bikes ATTRACT this type of rider more than anyother style of bike.
That is like all dag breeds bite, but only certain ones are responsible for a majority of the major injuries and killings. So those breeds are looked upon as "Bad Dogs".

I would agree that there are those out there that ride sportbikes stupidly, but I think that the majority of people that ride them ride them safely. You only see those who ride them because they stand out. They sell thousands of "sportbikes" a year. I believe that we would have heard a lot more about motorcycle safety if the majority of sportbike riders were crashing into other people or by themselves.

I think the cruiser community here would be offended if other people grouped them in with the Hell's Angels or any other HD biker gang. Or that person on the block that works third shift but blows down the little street with open baffles...

I just wanted to raise the issue to talk about the rider not the bike he rides.

I beg to differ with some of you. I do agree it's the rider who controls the throttle in all cases & ultimately is responsible, however, it's the bike too! Cruisers just don't have the capabilities sport bikes do. If a cruiser would pop a wheelie at 60-70 or had the lightening quickness of a sport bike, you can bet, there would be idiots out there doing the same thing on them. The reason you don't see those kinds of stunts & tragedies on cruisers is because they simply can't do it. Therefore, the people who think that kind of riding is cool buy the bikes that'll do it, yup, sportbikes. Don't get me wrong, nothing against sport bikes, in fact, I wouldn't mind one myself if I could afford a half dozen bikes, but I can't help but wonder if sport bikes would enjoy the same popularity if their capabilities were no different than a cruiser?

I own a mixed collection of bikes, from sports , to cruisers, dualsport, hardcore dirt, and even a goldwing.

I am the same rider on all of them, and hope people would noy judge me as a person dependant on which bike they see me on at the time.

The bikes i am a true idiot on is the hardcore dirt.....i like to literally see how far i can jump it, or just how long a wheelie it will do, or how fast i can pound thru the rough sections, or just how much roost i can toss.

Havingthat much snappy power ( yes its a 2 stroke KX250 ) and so little weight makes me do stuff I would not think of on other bikes.
The local track has 2 jumps, they are seperate, and not intended to be doubled.
but if i hit the first one hard enough i can land on the top of the second one.
Its scary but possible.
And i have yet to ride the KX250 for over an hour and not drop it.....must be darn near a Guiness book of records deal....lol
