Default question about risers

I have never taken my handle bars off so, if this question is obvious, sorry.

Is there any reason that harley davidson risers couldn't work on a metric bike?

Two ways to do it.
Drill your triple clamp out to 1/2"
Buy adapter studs. They are 1/2" on one end and thread into the HD risers, and have a 10mm stud on the bottom, so once threaded into the HD risers (and torqued tight with thread lock), they basically convert them into metric risers that accept a 10mm nut on the bottom of the triple clamp.

And once you've done what Rich has described above, you open yourself up to an amazing range of awesome looking risers from all manner of cool custom shops. Some of the better looking risers I looked into were from Choppers Inc, West Coast Choppers, Nash Motorcycles, Leroy Thompson and even The Detroit Brothers.

it makes me wonder why everyone just gets the phat risers? There seems to be a much larger range of risers that fit harleys.

Because the Phat risers do the job and they are a bolt-on.

That's one thing you find with metrics... people bag on "cookie cutter customs" regarding custom choppers, but if you get the J&P catalogs by mail, the Harley catalog is equal to the thickness of the metric catalog.

You have to be VERY careful with metrics to avoid having your ride look like it was built by Kuryakyn or Cobra.

I couldn't agree with you more!! If you're willing to think about the parts you're going to use and how you can make them work (like risers), you can use stuff that is different to everyone else and looks 10 times better.

You don't have to just look for parts that websites say are for Kawasaki, how limiting is that... My handlebars are from a Triumph.

I just got some 6" risers for my Mean Streak off of EBay, harley aftermarket for $40, and they are sweet! Try to do that with metric for $40... Thats why I am going to drill my triple clamp this weekend. Got a handlebar pretty cheap too
Also, I don't like the look of the Phat risers, I have the GenMar, and they aren't cutting it.
Plus, the more I think about it, I like the 1/2" bolt holding my bars on better than the 10mm. I mean 2.5mm isn't alot, but it's 2.5mm more...

Do you happen to have any pics of this adapter or a link on where to get them?

Scootworks - Kawasaki Handlebar Risers, PhatRisers, Riser Extensions, & Riser Accessories

About 3/4 of the way down the page. Two types, both 10mm, but the SAE end is either 1/2-13 or 1/2-20.

something like these should work just fine as long as I do a little drilling or buy what rich has above. ^
eBay Motors: Harley V Twin handlebar risers (item 200224386991 end time May-22-08 10:44:08 PDT)

I don't know about the risers from HD, but I did put a set of mini-apes on my 900LT from a Harley Wide-Glide using Sherms risers and have heen pretty happy wth the fit, feel and look. Best of all, no drilling.

If it's pullback risers you're after have a look at these, they look very neat!
